Yeah, those dirty banks forced those politicians to borrow more than they took in to buy stuff to get votes from people who didn't want to pay for anything.

Don't borrow more than you can afford to pay back--how hard is that?

The people of Greece had little to do with these decisions to borrow intractable amounts. These decisions are made by politicians lining their own pockets. The case is very solid and very easy to make, that lending to insolvent parties is 100% the liability of the lender.

These gross simplifications and false moral narratives are corporatist PR. Pablum for Faux News viewers.
I believe Greece will lead the west into reform of it's broken democratic system and broken money system. It will be painful. It should be a lesson to American dupes and hypocrites --but it won't be.

Politicians voted for by whom? Benefits and government jobs and payoffs and free this and that taken by whom?

You cannot absolve the people of Greece for their part in their problems.

Can anyone honestly figure a way not to go into austerity at this point?

You could try learning math. Even if the US cut it's budget to 50% of current revenue (this means across the board budget cuts of 75%) it would require more than 40 years to repay the gross national debt. With unfunded liabilities, it turns surreal.

False moral narratives programmed into your brain by profit machines must be removed. Specifically, financial profiteers are making slaves of us all and the shackles are not even locked! Laughable, really.

Then what is your solution?

Do you have a positive and workable solution rather than just complaining and pointing fingers?

At this point complaining is useless, it is what it is,
the US is hopelessly in debt
and without austerity
the only other measure is rampant inflation

Pointing fingers is also useless, the problem is real,
pointing fingers does not one thing to find or reach a solution.

At least one person is trying to come up with a solution
rather than sit on their couch
and point fingers and moan about it.

So, we have austerity or........what? The elephant in the room and the "what" is to get more taxes. Or the "what" could be, Go Greek. Ignore it. That is my choice. The US will turn out great either way. But austerity, not the solution.

Folks we already have austerity in America. The conman Obama, the flunky of the oligarchs, is a pacifier to the dumb lower and middle class liberals who don’t realize Obama is a snake oil conman.

The point of the OP is that they want to make it worst.

The little midget in Greece, Alexis Tsipras, Im sure is a nice guy but was way out of his league, who thought he could take on these vipers in Europe, got spanked like a child and good cop bad copped onto his knees. France was the good cop and Germany the bad cop.

The way they ruthlessly treated poor little Greece is an example to others to get in line or get broken

Here in America it has to be done differently, mainly by deception (Obama) when one day we all wake up and see reality as it is.

There is no solution to this folks because we’ve gone too far in bad economics, bad trade deals, bad Banksters, and all for the rich and powerful… what Thom Hartmann calls the Royalists.
Scott Walker lives and breathes to serve the Royalist rich.
He is the epitome of the slave of the Royalist rich.

The republicans screw us directly the democrats do it indirectly through trade deals like NAFTA and TPP.

There is no solution to this because people are deeply brainwashed to love and honor the rich over their own interests, mainly conservatives who freely give power to people who don’t have their interests at heart because they hate liberals!

The democrats have a little sense but are ignorant and always deceived with “free trade” nonsense that has lost America millions of jobs and will be worst once Obama’s TPP is passed.

The Greek people must be stupid.

Europe has an open doors border policy within the EU so why dont they all just pack their bags and head over here to the UK - free houses, free healthcare, free education, and benefits too - all without having to lift a finger or do a days work.

And they wonder why Europe is knackered.

And yes, the Greeks did it to themselves by borrowing huge to fund an unsustainable lifestyle, but then the IMF etc came to the "rescue" and made it 100 times worse by bailing them out with terms it was patently clear they would never be able to repay.

A large chunk of this problem somewhere along the line has to have been deliberate.

Either that or the politicians running the EU are even dumber than the idiots in Greece who started the ball rolling.

You would think that Europeans would have learned all they needed to know about the effects of harsh austerity in the run-up to WWII. Especially the Germans - who, btw, were forgiven out right the vast majority of their war debt and outstanding 'reparations' form WWI.

I predict that since the left in Greece did not (for whatever reason I don't know) hold out for the population that the right will soon be in power in a big way with all the trappings of nascent fascism. without the military might to 'acquire living space'.

A different way of doing all business public and private. A new paradigm has to come together. There are bits and pieces everywhere but the tipping point or bifurcation point hasn't yet been reached. I fear that the US population will come out on the wrong side of history or may just end any history out of hubris and greed.

Last weel, everyone was expecting something to happen with Greece on Sunday.

The Nationalist parties are very good at deflecting attention away from the fundamental reasons we are experiencing Austerity, by blaming everything on the Fundamentalists; which by the way, they deem all immigrants. They are picking up votes left, right and centre, literally.

Great question. I just recently joined the USPS Union and all I can see them doing is keeping people who should be terminated, employed. It seems they protect jobs, for either great employees, or those that just barely cut the mustard. People above me on the seniority list skate by knowing their job is secure, while my work ethic has always been to work harder than the guys above you in order to move up the chain. Am I correct in this view? I can see the good they provide, and know that my view comes from the bad I've seen.

Mr. Austerity America, Scott Walker, the Koch puppet who destroyed unions and was super Mr. Austerity in Wisconsin, has declared his candidacy today the day they destroyed Greece with austerity II!www.huffingtonpost.com...

Walker was likely commanded to wait for this very moment.

This austerity freak is likely to be the president if Bush or Hillary falters

And he will be like Dracula in office for the American people and will lead the charge for American austerity like you’ve never seen.

This GOP puppet of the Koch brothers is Americas worst nightmare.

Why The Koch Brothers Want Scott Walker To Be President

The billionaire Koch brothers indicated during an event on Monday that they will likely support Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) to be the Republican presidential nominee. According to two New York Times sources who attended the New York State Republican Party fundraiser, David Koch told the crowd that Walker should be the Republican nominee.

Walker has enjoyed the Kochs’ enthusiastic support for much of his political career. Koch Industries was one of the largest contributors to Walker’s first gubernatorial campaign, giving him $43,000, his largest out-of-state contribution. And Walker’s 2014 reelection campaign was one of the top recipients of Koch Industries cash. Tim Phillips, president of Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity, has also heaped praise on Walker. “The difference Scott Walker has made with his policy achievements is as transformative as any governor anywhere in a generation,” Phillips said in an interview.

I can only assume by this OP that your paycheck comes out of mine. And your scared. As you should be.

You are correct in that view.Sometimes.What a lot of people dont realize is most of the union employees work for that company. Only the executives do not. That representative that goes to deliberations works for the company , too. Its not a separate group .SO if the company wants to give .50/hr and the employees want $1/hr. most of time it is under the stipulation we will give you a $1/hr raise but we will have to cut 20 jobs. That representative , as they work there too , agrees to the .50/hr as they are thinking of their own jobs as well.

As far as putting someone "wrongfully" terminated back to work. That person would be better served going through the court system as if the court puts you back to work it comes with certain protections.

If a location does not raise enough "union dues" after a while they are "put up for bid" to another union. This union may be entirely different than the previous and have little knowlrdge of how to handle employees at that location

Its all about "dues"

Let's hope it doesn't come to people paying less tax in favour of those in poverty dying of starvation. No, I am sure it would never come to that.

You are correct.

Austerity will come to the US whether we like it or not.
Just as it is coming to Greece whether they like it or not.

The US government currently owes $58,000 for every man, woman, and child in America in debt
www.bloomberg.com... ies
People need to ask themselves, is your family able to pay their fair share?

If the US government took 100% of all the 1%er's money, the government would still be in debt
1%ers have nearly 2 trillion dollars total
The US debt is 18+ trillion dollars
www.zerohedge.com...
www.matchdoctor.com...

Can anyone honestly figure a way not to go into austerity at this point?

And how on earth can Unions get anyone out of this mess, that's a joke.

They have you dont they.

What about the 30 trillion (that they know of) in illegal untaxed off shore accounts.

What about the Rothschild family holdings of 300 trillion.

There is real wealth out there yet the sheeple still believe they must pay off this pie of debt with these crumbs.

The debt is fictional anyway, the people demanding the money are the same ones who hold all the money, its a circle jerk of profit for them, a sick twisted blood sucking system.

Funny how a right wing candidate can champion austerity measures imposed by a "socialist" EU - Luxembourg, a leading country of the EU, has the highest GDP per capita - it also has the highest external debt compared to gdp per capita, at 3443%, compared to Greece's 170%, or to compare another modern economy, the USA, with a 106%. Who do you think is really benefiting from the Greek bailouts? It doesn't seem to be Greece, nor the EU as a whole.

Yes, maybe he/she is a society unto his/her self.

Of course more taxes equals less poverty. Always has. And the statistics bear that out. /sarc

Most of homeless I see have "please pay your taxes" written on their signs.

I don't know why I butt into these histrionic glad handing threads.
