In Fiery Speeches, Francis Excoriates Global Capitalism
Oh I like this Pope (and I'm not Religous). Pope Francis tells it like it is, while the muckrakers bow to their Masters. It is truly a great time for someone of stature to speak out about the ills of mankind, specifically Unbridled Capitalism, and our future.

ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay — His speeches can blend biblical fury with apocalyptic doom. Pope Francis does not just criticize the excesses of global capitalism. He compares them to the “dung of the devil.” He does not simply argue that systemic “greed for money” is a bad thing. He calls it a “subtle dictatorship” that “condemns and enslaves men and women.”

NY Times

Speaking to grassroots organizers in Bolivia, the Pope called on the poor and disenfranchised to rise up against "new colonialism," including corporations, loan agencies, free trade treaties, austerity measures, and "the monopolizing of the communications media."

Daily Kos

Of course not all think highly of the Popes speech.

The pope looked bemused on Wednesday night when Morales handed him one of the more unusual gifts he has received: a sculpted wooden hammer and sickle – the symbol of communism – with a figure of a crucified Christ resting on the hammer.

So what's you stance on his beliefs on abortion and marriage? I wonder why we don't hear about those ...

Exactly . Pope needs to stay out of politics and science. His only function is to guide the Roman Catholic Church. Seems like he needs to put more effort there.

Don't have to be religious to see he's right about that.

Loaning money is how the world got buried in debt.

Fine dividing line between promising people hope for salvation and providing daily bread for people without hope. Its what they go to church for, to get answers about how to survive their daily 'life'.

I'm not catholic and don't really have much for religion in general, but Pope Francis truly is a wise and great human being. I admire him very much.

Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty in the past century than the Roman Catholic Church as done in two millennia.

Big words for a guy that runs the syndicate that brought you the Crusades, the Inquisition and a host of other barbarities.

I find it fascinating how all the atheists love what this pope does.

To me that's kind of telling.

My friend you are really mixing some eras up here. He is not criticizing Capitalism but "Unbridled Capitalism" big difference. When Income Inequality, 1% with 50% of the Wealth, things have changed, money has bought Politicians who constantly help Investors leaving everyday folks behind. This is in the last 100 years or so. The Crusades were a bit longer ago, and this is one man not a Church.

and that from the head of the most wealthiest religious organization in the world. the RC Church didn't earn their money like the corporations did. They took it (Hitlers gold), they charge for it, then look all holy for having all this incalculable wealth, and then have the nerve to tell others they are wicked.

their Churches in Europe have more gold and antiquities and they pay no taxes. They have their own govt but their troops are Swiss Guards, they wield political power as well as spiritual influence over close to a billion people if not more. They get all into the world stage as if they are political but once caught they retreat and claim only to be a spiritual group.

Roman Catholicism is a form of Communism. With the Pope as supreme leader of the smallest and most wealthiest nation on earth.

Don't you mean that he is one of the masters of a great number of muckrakers? Speak out about the ills of mankind? Do you mean like the numerous pedephiles he hides all over the world? I don't know if this guy is the pot or the kettle. Like he has Vatican empire with untold wealth and he hates the other guy for doing the same. The word here is hypocrite with a big H.

Absolutely correct ChesterJohn. That takes lots of guts and a twisted mind to spout that kind of rhetoric. Maybe he wants Obama's job.

Nothing to do with what he is saying here and something he has spoken up and out about recently, once again the Man is not the Church and for the first time in my 59 years I see a Pope that is a driving force for Good. He can not erase the past, and he does speak up about it.

Hog wash and double talk. Blame is the game. Everybody blames the other guy for not working and saving and then borrowing till they are broke. Have seen that for well over eighty years. Unbridled? Give everyone a million bucks and in a short time will see the same thing. Doing good? Is the Vatican getting poor? Not on your life. Not a dimes worth.

Although I agree with his position, I also look at his motivation and the possibility of an underlying agenda. The RC's have lost a very predominant self enriching and control system, almost a monopoly at one point. Of course they're going to bitch about their competition.

That doesn't mean the message is incorrect, just the reasons and I expect they are selfish reasons that hinge on greed, power and avarice just like their asclown competition. It's actually amazing, the similarities. Lol.

Cheers - Dave

You want something a little more recent like Nazi collaboration?

Pope Che is a socialist/borderline communist, of course he is not going to like capitalism.

Are you 100% sure it is the economic system that really is the reason? Maybe it has to the accumulation and sharing of knowledge instead of the so called power pyramid form of society.

Today you get less part of what you produce in percentage than what you got when you under fedual rule. What I could have done with keeping 80% of what I create/produce.

Today patent/laws and miss information is the greatest threat to information flow and to keep power in the hands of corrupt people enslaving all others in ponzi schemes.

China a power pyramid where those in political power have taken control over production and the people are enslaved to the system. US a power pyramid where banksters (controlling the whole economic system) have taken control over the political power by buying the politicians parasitizing on everyone else. Russia where Putin and his Ilk have taken control over the corporations/production.

Three different ways to create the same thing. Fascism “the merger of state and corporate power.

The fact that you think living in a feudal society would be more beneficial than our current one is astounding.

Even if your 'I get to keep 80% of what I make' comment was accurate, and I doubt its veracity, good luck with that when the average life expectancy was 35 during that time period.
