Yep. And it shows 2.2 million people incarcerated. Which is 22% of the world's total number of incarcerated people. So I guess since Webb said 25% and not 22% he made it up and it can automatically be thrown out the window?

Oh, okay.

Wasn't aware the world has the same laws as each other.

It's a nice false equivocation though.

Now if every country in the world has the same exact population.

The same exact political system.

The same exact judicial system.

That '22%' might be relevant.

But it isn't.

The only number that counts is the BJS.

Incarcerated is incarcerated. Whether they should be or not is immaterial to the fact that they are. Not chasing you all over the map about it. It's a fact that the U.S. has custody of 22% of the worldwide prison population. There is no "false equivocation" between being incarcerated in Mexico and incarcerated in the UK.

You wanna debate legal systems and case laws, make a thread for it.

Bottom line: neither number that Webb cited can fairly be called "made up." They may not be exactly on the nose, but they're not far off.

What? So after 5 attempts you finally get the actual point, but then you try to downplay the fact by using ridiculous arguments?

C'mon, take it like an adult, you were wrong; It happens so get used to it. You will feel better for it and make others happy as well. The Criminal Justice system in the US is broken and in need of serious overhaul!

Omg, this is getting embarassing.

22% of the world's PRISON population.

Jesus Christ now you're just doing it on purpose.

Nobody, not one person, has said 22% of the global population.

The worldwide PRISON population neo. And don't pretend like that point continues to elude you.

So no, the only one making things up here is you.

The sad thing is that somehow your intentionally ignorant comments are getting stars.

22% of the world's INCARCERATED population; reading is fundamental.

Yeah it is embarrassing.

Because from country to country how, and why people end up in prison are not the same in any one country.

Dunno some people are ignoring that.

For them all to be comparable they would have to be the EXACT same.

The point is that America's systems are so messed up that it has landed a disproportionate number of citizens behind bars.(for the most part, there are some other reasons)

Off course things are different in the rest of the world. That is the whole point. How you could use this as an argument against the validity of this 22% statistic, is beyond me.

You're right, the "why and how" are important when looking at prison statistics. The fact that they aren't the same is the point of comparison. The "why and how" is the problem in the US.

the original penitentiary system was to allow the offender a setting to think about his future for better....now we have hell behind walls.
it's never said why the evil wardens let crap happen inside the walls so devilishly.

I'd like to think that Obamas visit will improve on this joke of a justice system. But I doubt it. The amount of rape and violence in prisons is ridiculous!

It's not just America though, it's everywhere.
I'm sorry I can't provide the link, but please youtube 'top 10 worst prisons' - It's terrifying! These prisons make America's prisons look like Kindergarten... I 5hit you not, go look it up now.

Ps Neo, wtf are you talking about? :-|
