I didn't mean it as the actual historical period, just that it was a dark age of civilization.

I can see where you could be confused though, and I apologize I didn't make that clearer.

Doesn't change anything about my post though, not surprised you just picked on part of it to address though.

Yea, to keep the peace. We needed some of these ridiculous laws before we had hyper transfer of information, goods, and persons across the globe. The terrain has changed. We don't need to be burned, or drowned for things like this anymore. There's too much abundance compared to 4k years ago. You realize work was like 14 hour days 6 days a week back then, and the standards of living were poor, oh and no porn at the search of a google. Completely different times.

If a woman cheats on a guy, guy cheats on guy, or whatever other variation, you move on, and keep the ability to provide for yourself. I just think this is silly.

Last I knew, SCOTUS was supposed to interpret and define the American constitution, bill of rights, and law. And not the code of Hammurabi.

Did that change?

It's all part of Jade Helm 15, duh.

it is not about ignorance but about the origins of marriage and who it historically between.

OK. Let's say you're right. The oldest law that you know of said marriage was between a man and woman. So what? What bearing does that have on us today?

Not one nation before modern times legalized same sex marriage.

Not one nation legalized it, but some MADE IT ILLEGAL. Just like the US did at one point. So, before it was made illegal, it was legal.

As an aside, we didn't "make it legal" now, either. We removed a violation of the 14th amendment. In other words, making it ILLEGAL was a violation of the Constitution in the first place.

It's as if someone made owning a gun ILLEGAL and the Supreme Court said, "Sorry, that violates the 2nd Amendment, so you can't do that." That's EXACTLY what happened with this ruling. "Gay marriage" should never have been made illegal and has violated the Constitution for many years.

Until 1973, there was no restriction on gender in any marriage statute in any state within the U.S.

January 1: Maryland becomes the first state in the U.S. to statutorily ban same-sex marriage.[20] In the following two decades, other states joined Maryland in statutorily banning same-sex marriage, reaching almost the totality of US states by 1994.

And yet, here we still are.

Only reason the Christians will deny history is because they believe gay marriage is the last straw before Jesus returns. If they consider the fact that gay marriage has been a part of history for thousands of years, they have to consider the fact that the "last straw" was already broken thousands of years ago and Jesus has yet to return.

not at all we beleive God has given people over to it and it seems to be a lot of people have been given over to it.

reread Romans 1 in the AV and see for yourself.

as far as it being before Christ returns not one shred of Scripture supports that.

So keep making false claims for those who call themselves Christains

There were homosexuals and at some times they weren't stoned to death

But there was never written laws about same sex marriages. Find me one original source of such law. You can't.
Catholics or no catholics I care less until you show me original law.

The court considers history in the context of previous court rulings.

Not the context of what some guy wrote a few thousand years ago in another country.

The court, while doing so rarely, will also reverse historical precedent when it becomes outdated or deemed "bad."

We know homosexuality existed as far back as man kind can see. Ham molested his drunken father.

I think the Supreme Court strengthened American society with it's decision, without regard to what was or was not permissible anywhere else, at any time else.

I base this belief on what I know about this place and it's people.

For all I know Rome And Babylonia collapsed and died because same sex marriage was treated as a crime.

It was "overthrown" by many different time periods and most recently by very many countries.

We've had many traditions that have evolved over time. I can't even really believe anybody would take thousands of year old contracts and accept them without revision.

Unless you like the idea of women being property, among the other dozens of really stupid things in that list.

Sure there was homosexuality, where from we have a word Lesbians ? It is from Greek island Lesbos

But such relations were never codified in any ancient laws, period. At some times they were acceptable, just as we had it in last few decades in modern Western civilization. What I'm saying though it never went as far as recent legislations by USA and Ireland and some other states.

so 4000 plus years of historical tradition is over thrown by five liberal SCOTUS judges without regard to the historical tradition.

Didn't Canada legalize same-sex marriage in 2005?
