After much debate, South Carolina will remove that ultra-controversial Confederate Flag from the State Capitol grounds during a ceremony Friday !!!

The State Legislature passed the bill and the Governor has signed it.

Now the fun starts.

South Carolina Governor Signs Law Removing Confederate Flag From Capitol

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina, the first state to secede from the union, dispatched with a lasting symbol of the Civil War on Thursday as Gov. Nikki R. Haley signed a law removing the Confederate battle flag from the grounds of the State House.

The flag, which flies in front of the graceful 19th-century capitol building here, is set to come down at 10 a.m. Friday.

Ms. Haley, a Republican, signed the bill in a capitol building where, the night before, members of the House of Representatives had engaged in a 13-hour legislative argument over the flag, which was introduced on capitol grounds by white lawmakers in the early 1960s at the height of anti-integration sentiment.

Yey!! Now finally the job Obama was supposed to do gets done! Equality, peace, and all men equal will spread across the land. The inner city war zones will have calm and all those racist history teachers will never, and I mean never have to bring up this subject again!!

Will churches be made to remove the crucifix from atop their buildings as is symbolizes an implement of torture and death and a religious affront?

And by doing so, has done everything short of officially criminalizing this flag, effectively redefining it as pure racism. Which couldn't be further from the truth. The fact is nearly a half million southern men, women and children died banning together under this flag for no other reason than to defend themselves from the union invasion. An invasion they didn't know the political cause for, due to a fact that's contrary to popular belief, there was no f'n internet. They're spitting in the face of good southern, peaceful people and labeling them as racist.

Should the flag have been taken down from the Capitol? Absolutely, a long f'n time ago during a quiet time. Waiting around for a mindless tragedy, sensationalizing the symbol through the horror of it and coming to a hasty dramatic conclusion was piss-poor timing to say the least. This will set a precedence, and not a good one.

They didn't even come close to criminalizing it. If people want to fly it they still can.

You are right it should have been taken down long ago and sad it took what it took for that body of gov to finally have the discussion.

Ok. Now the american flag is next. It was flying right along side the Confederate flag as well. I am going to launch a petition and give it to the Indians, and anyone that has been offended and hurt under that flag. Then we can raise a new flag. with 5o multi color stars on a backround of rainbow stripes.

The south is still fighting the war. It's over already, get over it. This country has 1 national flag, not two.

Do you really think that equates to the Confederate Flag?

Let's think about this logically for a minute.

The Confederate Flag is a reminder of a war that was fought over slavery and if black people should actually be considered people. When it is flown by people, white people in particular, it is basically a declaration saying that they wish the South would have won the Civil War...which indirectly says they may still see black people as inferior at best and sub-human at worst.

The Cross is a reminder of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This is displayed on Christian churches because the crucifixion of Jesus is central to their belief system. Where do you see the offense in this? What group is the cross a symbol of oppression?

I know Fox News and all the other Conservative talking heads are trying their hardest to make ridiculous comparisons to the Confederate Flag...but you aren't required to believe them and repeat them.

It's a modern day symbol of racism.

Symbols change, deal with it.

So the Fed won in the game of capture the flag. What states rights? They can't even pick what bit of colored cloth to fly over their capitol. Wait, is it their capitol?

We don't make laws regarding religious organizations....that symbol is truly meaningless in this place.
