Ultimately I think it’s the morality of the people that ruins the system not the system.

Buddhists teach that no system is 100 percent perfect. But morality based on goodness and love can become as close to perfect as anything.

If we struggle to become better human beings and honest people then we can transcend any system, imo.

Will, we could be the most moral country on the planet and it wouldn't make a damned bit of difference.

Because it's our leaders that are as amoral as a human can get.

I am very sure that your definition of moral and mine do not agree.

it's still a marginally free country.

You get to believe what you want, and I get to believe what I want.

What's wrong with austerity? Do you even know what the term means or why Greece needs austerity?

The Greeks spent too much in comparison to their GDP the only way to fix the deficit is to raise taxes or cut spending. Or both. You think anyone wants that?

The USA will be in the same predicament soon and it will most likely start under Obama. Does that make it his fault? No, but he certainly didn't help things.

Austerity is the medicine we and the Greeks need. Too bad no one will get that. Personally I'm predicting a Bernie Sanders or Hillary win.

Hillary is going to be anointed Queen.

…and the strange thing is that many will think that they actually voted her in and that it was a democratic election instead of the limited dynastic evolution that it has become….

Sad to watch the demise in slow motion with everyone bickering over things that truly do not matter.

Like me….

You sir, have a very good understanding of what you think austerity means in this case. In reality, the IMF or other entity extends help which is readily taken by the governmental oligarchs; then wasted as the true underlying problems that caused the need for cash have never been addressed properly. Once the government is hooked in, the clock is basically ticking to the next necessity for a 'fix' (think Junkie); the addiction grows. FInally the IMF or World Bank etc. request concessions for the funding (privatize infrastructure, mineral/water rights, etc.) when that is not possible or runs dry, then comes the austerity which basically only impacts the people and not the oligarchs.

Could you give us some specific examples of these austerity policies? Yes, I'm aware of the meaning of the word (a state of extreme simplicity or harshness) but how to migrate that thought to the political system is what is confusing me.
You're saying cut spending and raise taxes. Which spending and which taxes? What are the austerity measures taken by Europe? I freely admit to not having followed this issue in Europe. I remember the Cypress "haircuts" because that was widely publicized but what other measures have been taken?
Are European governments encouraging saving money and living frugally? Have European governments cut their spending? Have they raised taxes? If so, what are they taxing more heavily to avoid the train wreck? These are honest questions.

austerity is coming

Don't get me wrong, Will, you know I dig you, but from where I am standing "austerity came 40lbs and 6 years ago.

It's all austere. Everywhere.

I hear shocking things in my line of work, things that sound like Joe Kennedy and the shoe-shine-boy-stock-tip.

In the same day I heard an anesthesiologist tell a surgen to, "Stop worrying about making money, focus on your real assets: your job and your patients", and also that a surgical device rep that makes twice what that surgeon does has returned to school to become a paramedic, a job he is leaving his present job for in a few weeks.

Holy. Mother#in'. #.

Right?

I agree, as sad and sick as it may seem....

Kind of throws the whole OP logic out the window hehe

As for austerity I really can give a crap who is president since the ones that would make a difference will not be president, but hey I'll roll with it. The past six years has been great for me even though I understand that a good percentage of Americans are hurting. The key is to get to a point that it doesn't matter who is president and then you will not be effected as much with the pure crap that we get.

No you are wrong...

The sad part is we will vote her in. There is no need to fix anything at all since about 70% of Americans are extremely ignorant and will do the "look squirrel" thing and vote her in without any need for smoke and mirrors. We see this in Congress all the time with true failures that keep getting voted in over and over for 30 years.

If you raise taxes or cut spending you all but inevitably reduce GDP, therefore raising the relative debt. You will almost certainly reduce tax intake and so increase the deficit.
Greece certainly does need tax reform but austerity in the middle of an economic crisis is not the way to do it.

Edit - sorry this was meant as reply to asmall89.

Austerity is actually already here it’s just that we have a con-man as president who has persuaded stupid people that he has saved the economy.

Indeed an increase in Burger King and Wall Mart jobs has made the statistics look decent but don’t be fooled we are in a version of austerity that will get increasingly worse when Jeb Bush is elected and they have--as they did during 911--a GOP president and congress.

It’s like having an alligator and elephant coming at you at the same time!

The worldwide elite masters, typified by the annual Bilderberger get together of the worlds elite at a chosen plush hotel, have without a doubt chosen austerity for us slaves.

It has devastated Europe, as example Greece, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, and even France and England.

The only thing left is to get at America and the only and true way to do this is another Bush, GOP, in the white house and at the same time an austerity loving( tax cutting of the rich GOP congress)...

This will devastate America and bring the country into the worst economic experience since the depression

Believe me this is planned and plotted as closely as the 911 murder conspiracy.

It doesn’t matter that people here will start the usual accusations about “the left/right” paradigm as if I am a partisan for revealing that this will be done under GOP power.

It’s just that it is the policies of austerity under the GOP philosophy that is in perfect alignment with the mentality of the European troika that is strangling the Greeks that exists within the very mentality of the GOP powers in America that will serve the interests of the elite masters who want to starve us.

(If you want to bite someone you get a mad dog: the GOP)

Therefore it is they (the GOP) who are naturally chosen to preside over the destruction of the US economy and the initiation of massive and pernicious austerity in America as it is now in Europe.

Austerity is already here but being under the fraud Obama, and through a massive and sinister deception, Americans don’t even see it!

Believe me once the GOP take the helm in 2016 soon you will see and feel the evils of austerity similar to what the Europeans are feeling

I hate to spill the beans so soon, but when Bernie Sanders can't be elected, let's face it. Jed Bush has already been chosen. Doubt my word, he's already the first one to say "trust me", so he shows his tax forms for all them years. Nothing happens at the presidential level that hasn't been planned and groomed. President Carter found that out when he wanted to see the UFO Alien reports and guess who was head of the CIA at the time who said "NO" George H W Bush. So trust me, Jeb Bush is America's next president.

austerity is a word that shouldn't be used in reference to either party.
they are great about transferring funding from those items they don't like to those that they find more redeeming qualities in but after they do that, they will increase the funding still more thus increasing the budget while we argue and bicker about what is worthy and what isn't.
austerity to me is when they equally cut all categories of spending and increase taxes on even their favorites groups and they cut their expensive travel plans and dinner parties and start living more like the rest of us.
austerity is also when they start diving into the bank accounts of the more wealthy and confiscate a portion of those accounts unless of course the more wealthy are their buddies and are given a heads up in time to take their wealth and run, something that I think would go against the very fabric of your average american republican.
na, I don't see neither party willingly going into true austerity but rather it will be something that will be forced upon them by their banker overlords.

I think you're absolutely right, OP. Both political parties are against us. Both parties are puppets for the NWO. All of this has been planned long in advance.

GWB's presidency was a train wreck designed to prepare us for a left wing "savior." Now we have a left-wing train wreck of a presidency and we need a Republican to magically wave his wand and undo all of Obama's ridiculousness.

But each administration just takes us one step closer to total authoritarian control by a small group of elites.

A step with the left foot, a step with the right foot, over and over.

I did refer to electricians and pipe fitters being a hot commodity right now. And I think being able to design and draw is a skill worth having too. I did mention several degreed positions that are very hot right now but there are many non-degreed positions that are hot too. I do agree with you on that. In my area though we are laying off machinists but actively searching for certified welders and pipe fitters. A couple hours away it might be the exact opposite.
