I for one am proud of my nation for making a giant civil rights leap and moving away from religious rule.

Sorry if that offends you.

I could give a flying rat's @ss if it offends you or not.

The question is: why does it offend you if a church flies a banner of God above the US flag?

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. It's a matter of respect. The same respect (that is supposed to exist) inside a church. It's not illegal to be loud and act like a "pinhead" during a church service, or a funeral, but it's socially accepted as poor behavior and for good reason. Those with proper upbringing simply wouldn't do it regardless of their personal beliefs.

Disrespecting all those who firmly believe the flag stands for Freedom is poor form.

A freedom we wouldn't have without our Maker. I'm not advocating for it, but I think it sets a dangerous precedent to tell them they can't. Who is supposed to be uppermost in your heart as a Christian? Your country, your local sports team or God?

I agree with you. And if a church was to place some flag above the US flag, it would not be against the law. But it might be considered a slap in the face to a Vet who lost men under his command, or to a vet with missing limbs due to combat. regardless of how you feel about WHY he fought, the fact that he did so willingly, and was also willing to give his life for what he believed in, should offer him at least a passing thought.

I say... take the confederate flag down and put it in a museum.

I think those pastors should take down the American flag... and just fly their church flags.

I think the American flag should be flown at every government building in the United States.

And that wasn't part of the original pledge, only added during the red scare...

I stated a personal opinion. I don't say the pledge because I consider it asinine. Sort of a statement of "I'll do whatever my country asks of me" declaration, which would be an absolute lie for me to say. Regardless, the nation should know its role and remain firmly beneath the Almighty.

Firmly beneath the almighty is a personal thing and I will add greater context into why.........If we have a singular belief such as Christianity inclusion and exclusion would happen because of the diversity of belief in this country. Also it is a slippery slope what happens if Muslims start becoming the majority in the US in the future.......See how this could turn around into something else.

I do see the need for religion inside the military structure and monuments.......Ya I know this is a conflict of interests in my viewpoint. Another member made very good points that I think even the founding fathers would understand......And before someone says I am speaking for the founding fathers.........I used the words "I think".

A true heartfelt thank you to all that have replied. I've gone through and made sure no one was left without a star(I,meant STAR dammit), even if you disagree with my stance. Not saying any of you changed my thinking on this issue, but I see and understand everyone's point of view. So again, thank you for your replies and keeping this civil.

With that said, everyone that disagrees with me is a stoopid poop head!

We are a secular nation, god is not over us.

You are quite correct.

God has abandoned the USA.

That only happens when the last believer leaves this nation. I doubt it will ever be that way. Eb and flow. the only thing constant is change.

In my humble opinion,
once Obama said "the US is not a Christian nation, and never has been"
he asked God to leave the US alone and to no longer give the US
any support or blessings.

Looking at headline news over the past 4 years, it is quite clear
that God has honored the head of our nation's request to
leave the US and that God is no longer welcome in the US

I believe that God still blesses individual people,
and individual leaders and individual areas (pockets)
of the US who have invited him to
stay and bless and protect them.

You well know, God does not force himself where he is not
wanted.
The Bible is clear if a leader of a country
asks God to butt out and get out, then he will,
and he has as a nation.
But not for individuals or pockets of the country
where the majority have asked God to stay and
bless.

But the country overall, God has honored the
request of the "will of the majority"
as expressed in recent rulings, laws,
and statements by the current administration
and their supporters.

The God worshiped by the Israelites and
the Christians has honored the request of
the leaders of our country and left the
country as a whole to it's own devices.

And Christophobics should be rejoicing
dancing and feasting at the thought.

A progressive can be pc or outraged or both.
A conservative can be pc or outraged or both.

You can't debate with Beezzer about what it means to be truly progressive...

It's like talking to a wall with a graffiti Bunny on the brickwork.

When you become PC, you cede rights, you sacrifice honesty for whatever social meme is most popular on twitter at the moment.

Honesty, integrity should never take a backseat to PC.

But it has.

We've become a nation of cowards afraid of words.

We used to challenge different ideas, now we run from them.

It's now deemed braver to change your sex than fight to protect an ideal.

Flags now upset a country. They're nothing more than symbols. Nothing more than a representative of ideals.

You can't debate progressives because they are intellectually dishonest and cowardly.

But hey, just my opinion!

I'd take offense to that statement of intent...

But as a true progressive, civil rights, humanitarian type progressive...

Progress made progressive...

Unashamedly for the betterment of mankind progressive...

None of what you said applies to me or my ilk.

You seem to be describing yourself.

ETA: Just to be on topic... it's a church, separate from the government as it should be. They have no need to follow flag etiquette, they have the right to make the statement that they place God before country.

I'm pretty sure that I am being honest when I say that we should be respecting ALL groups of people equally instead of casually slandering them with insensitive words.

Honesty, integrity should never take a backseat to PC.

Funny because someone who is being TRULY PC from the heart instead of because of social pressures would view not wanting to say these things as having a LOT of integrity. But hey, your mileage may vary.

But it has.

We've become a nation of cowards afraid of words.

I'm pretty sure you are challenging them right now.

It's now deemed braver to change your sex than fight to protect an ideal.

I'm pretty sure the social backlash and hardship received from changing your sex is a BIT different than the disapproval you may get from protecting an ideal. Though feel free to contact me when you are receiving death threats on a daily basis for your opinions on ATS.

Flags now upset a country. They're nothing more than symbols. Nothing more than a representative of ideals.

Newsflash: Flags have been important to people, not just in this country but ALL countries, for thousands of years.
