This is probably one of the most beautiful uses of stone I've seen, a large bowl made from Agate.

www.lhconklin.com...

LHC-126. AGATE BOWL. An amazing product of the pre-war Idar-Oberstein, Germany lapidary traditions. This bowl was carved from a rare, large block of translucent Brazilian agate that had, originally, a surface of small quartz crystals and the carver skilfully retained those crystals all aound the rim of the bowl! The wonderful baroque form with its agate “eyes” follows the original shape of the rough stone. 10-1/4x8x5 inches.

Thanks for Steve Buscemi, love that man! and 'ole what's his name, currently the main creep on Under the Dome..Argh...his name escapes me.

Wow Dave that mortar and pestle is something else, what an agate. Oh and that bowl, that is seriously the coolest thing ever.

And Holy Crap! the Trovant ("growing stones" of Romania) I definitely need to know more about them.

We do the majority of our rock picking at the beach and rivers we've found lots of interesting rocks over the years.

I'd like to see the Crystal Cave in Mexico (and look for Superman)

DAVID64, S&F for bringing us this thread. Mother nature has given us so many beautiful natural works of art. These pictures are just awesome.

I have a collection of many crystals and gemstones that I use for their healing properties and also incorporate them into jewelery that I make.

Here are a couple links that explain how and what different gemstones and crystals are used for.

Great thread!! Thanks, all, for the awesome pics!

Showing my age here... did anyone else have the set of Disney Encyclopedias as a kid? I wore the Rocks and Minerals section completely ragged!

As others have said, many a rock was rediscovered in our washer. And the car. And the bed. And in my Mom's jewelry box.

Good times!

Beautiful images of those!

Star Garnet

I have tiny ones harvested from rocks. You can see the star even in them.
