Staying with an adult is secondary IMO. I'd rather responders waste time looking for my non-missing kids than be calling me and telling me that they're victims. There is no perfect solution in this nightmare scenario but this is the one I feel is the best "plan A" ... by the time a head count is taken my kids would likely be home (or at friends house) and calling me.

As a parent, I fully understand.

As a responder, I don't like it.

Mixed blessing I guess.

What part of boot camp do they teach building and room clearance?

Oh...yea...they don't.

Are you actually saying that soldiers and marines are not trained to clear buildings and rooms? Really?

Whatever cowboy.

Everyone should just sit down and STFU and wait for the 'first responders.'

God save us.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm saying, guy.

At no point in my 13 weeks on Parris Island did I learn diddly about clearing buildings. None. Zero. Nada. Zilch. When I hit the fleet is when I learned how to do it.

So do I want some finance tech running around trying to engage a threat, or would I rather he just sit his ass down and wait for people who are actually trained for the job to do the job?

I'll take door #2, please.

But what do I know? I only actually went through boot camp.

what a one day course, where they run about 300 through a mock up does not training make, more like a familiarization course.

like e beach on Parris Island, four platoons running through different courses to get familiar with what they may have to do.

The Latest: Official: Video shows 2 jumping Navy Yard fence

A federal official says Navy security has seen surveillance video of two people jumping the fence in the vicinity of a building where gunfire was reported on the Washington Navy Yard campus.

The official said Thursday that the video showed the two jumping the fence a couple of minutes before the first report of the shots.

The official also says security has cleared the building and found no one inside.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity for lack of authorization to discuss details publicly.

I'd like to understand better what happens in this general complex/area. For sure it attracts some hinkiness as this is like the third or fourth incident/threat in a few years.

No, we had a solid week of Building and room clearing. Not saying that we were the most suited for the job lol, i was Field Artillery. But Higher apparently thought that Being in a MLRS that i would be clearing rooms in my spare time. Plus i know that Army & Marine training is different.

Could be Army infantry OSUT. My understanding is that's like recruit training and ITB rolled into one, except not as long as the two combined.

Though to be honest, doing it handful of times with other boots doesn't hold a candle to doing it repetitively with fleet Marines with years of training.

A guy interviewed just said a fire alarm was pulled. So that's not an accident but he then state it rolled into an active shooter within minutes with LEO going floor to floor evacuating.

Now all clear at Navy Yard.

Maybe this was just an overreaction due to so-called terror threats.

Wouldn't matter anyway. The Military seems to be deathly afraid of issuing weapons and live ammo outside of an active war zone.

It is not like they are going to open the armory and arm everyone up. That only happened once in 8 + years I was in. There was a PX bombing in Germany, Weapons were handed out, we were deployed along the fence-lines of our installation and they pulled tanks up to the gate.

Active teams were armed and deployed to the US civilian housing areas.

Even then, we could not lock a magazine unless ordered or under fire.

just heard on FOX News that the reports are that it is a false alarm.
according to Fox, the AP is reporting that someone that was there during the 2013 shooting heard a loud noise and reported as a shooting.

All Clear has been given.

Still would like to know more about the report of two guys seen on security video going over a perimeter fence. Leaving or entering?

I know this is now over but I feel compelled to add this here. The reporting on things like this in the US is INSANE.

It's now clear that this was a false alarm, and probably because of heightened awareness of potential threats and targets over this weekend, but the news clip I just saw was so insanely hyped-up with them interviewing each other, almost desperate to see more drama and make it out to be something it isn't.

I was watching some YouTube videos last night of Fox reporting on the 7/7 events in London as they happened, and they were so full of bs it's no wonder there are so many Americans who believe all the conspiracy theories about it (and everything else).

Even two hours after the Met Police stated there were only 4 explosions in London Fox was still claiming there were 7, then 6, then 10, then back to 7... They had supposed "specialists" talking absolute tripe, getting things blatantly wrong, claiming there were people trapped in the tube hours after, actively lying on air within minutes of being told the truth by someone actually on the scene.

I don't know what the solution is, but I think it's about time Americans stopped watching these supposed news broadcasters entirely. It's really pretty shocking to watch for someone outside of the US.
