The Casual, Idiotic Racism of Modern American Conservatism
^^ THAT is the title of the article.

What I want to talk about is the attitude of Ted Cruz and other Repubicans.
So ----
here is my suggested title:

LET'S TALK ABOUT TED CRUZ'S "DARKEST 24-HOUR PERIOD IN US HISTORY" STATEMENT.

what are we to make of certain comments by Congressman Louis Gohmert, Senator Ted Cruz and conservative media personality Sean Hannity in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision legalizing marriage equality nationwide?

...
According to the Texas Congressman [Gohmert], because of the ruling, “God’s hand of protection will be withdrawn” from America.

In other words, God so loves the world (but hates the gays) that he will either smite us directly, or at the very least no longer offer his thus far really impressive protection from things like economic recession, killer tornadoes, scorching heat waves, disastrous blizzards, a crumbling national infrastructure, and for that matter, racist young men who walk into churches and slaughter nine of his followers in cold blood.

Got it? No more “protection” from those things!

Ugh. The article goes on to discuss racism as it really is, but I want to focus on the gay-marriage issue for now.

For Gohmert to claim that now God’s protection will be withdrawn is to suggest that prior to this time we were the active recipients of that protection, that to this point God had shined his light upon America, blessing us with all good things, happy at the sight of our superior morality.

And yet, for that to be true, one would have to believe that God saw nothing wrong with the enslavement of African peoples for over two hundred years, the slaughter and forced removal of indigenous peoples from their land, the invasion and theft of half of Mexico, the abuse of Chinese labor on railroads, the internment of Japanese Americans—nothing wrong with lynching or segregation.

You would have to accept that God is more offended by marriage equality than any of those things, that God was essentially sanguine about formal white supremacy, and willing to extend his protective blanket over us even in the face of that, but somehow so-called “gay marriage” is a bridge too far.

I've been saying since the midterms - the Christian Moral Majority GOP will implode. They are scrambling.
Their attitudes are ridiculously hypocrital.

In the wake of the Supreme Court ruling, Cruz took to Sean Hannity’s radio program, where he proclaimed that the previous twenty-four hour period (in which the court not only legalized marriage equality but also saved affordable health care for between 6-8 million Americans) had been “among the darkest 24-hours” in the history of the nation itself.

It was a claim to which Hannity responded that he could not have said it “more eloquently” himself.

Disgusting.

Really? A 24-hour period during which the court extended rights to millions of people and guaranteed that upwards of eight million wouldn’t lose their health insurance was among the worst 24-hour periods in history?

As bad or worse than any 24-hour period under slavery, under segregation, or during which day-long progression multiple black bodies may well have been strung up from tree limbs?

Worse than the 24-hour period in which the same court issued its decision in Dred Scott, holding therein that blacks had no rights the white man was bound to respect?

Worse than the 24-hour period in which whites bombed and burned the Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma or slaughtered dozens of African Americans in East St. Louis, Illinois in orgies of racial terrorism?

Yeah, Cruz says it was the WORST 24-hour period of all time in America.
This just makes me want to puke.

How anyone - ANYONE could vote for this idiot is beyond me.
Like I said, the article is primarily about racism, but Cruz called the Supreme Court's decisions to uphold gay-marriage rights AND to uphold the ACA the worst 24 hours ever.

Do any of you agree with this?

Please see the article for more on the willful ignorance or neglect of many conservatives as to the actual HISTORY of this country which "God" supposedly loved......or for that matter, the history of natural disasters and human rights violations.....
but he's going to 'withdraw' now???

HOW can it possibly get any worse?

I am deliberately going to post and dash this time. I'm tired. I hope others are as infuriated about this round of clowns running for office as I am, but honestly, I know that many are delighted.

Just wanted to open it up for discussion.
sigh

What does the ACA have to do about racism?

The Japanese were interned under FDR, a progressive, a socialist, and a Democrat. Obviously, the writer of the article is not well acquainted with history.

There is plenty of racism to go around and it is getting rather tiresome that the left calls everything under the sun that does not agree with them "racist."

The title of the article is a great example of how quickly a liberal has to resort to name calling when trying to rant.

Y'know, since we're making blanket statements and all.

Not that I am Cruz fan but what did he say against any one particular race or races? Not seeing it.

Nothing. I am talking about Cruz and other Conservatives saying that it was the worst 24-hour period.
That is the part of the article I am highlighting.

Racism is obvious...white supremacy, too. The article DOES focus on racism, and I decided to just highlight the fact that his 'approach' is about the rights extended to others.

People - I posted the article title as it stands.

I said I don't want to focus on the racism part, but the part that Cruz is highlighting as the worst 24-hour period in American history. Can we just do that, please? Or not.

For more on the racism angle, please read the article. I wanted to discuss this presidential candidate's abhorrent statement about the SCOTUS rulings of last Friday.

Okay?

If not, then, go ahead and derail it. The article has much more to say, and it's ALL valid.

So you create a threat entitled, "The Casual, Idiotic Racism of Modern American Conservatism," and then say that addressing the racism accusation is off topic?

Doc, maybe you're too reactive at this point to think about the points Cruz made and how Hannity echoed it.

DO YOU think that the gay-marriage ruling and the ACA ruling are the worst 24-hours EVER in American history?

You gonna vote for Cruz?

Glad you're amused.

This should probably go into the mud pit.

Suck it up, Conservatives - THIS IS HOW America sees you.

To be fair, the thread title is simply the title of the article. Same thing I do when I post using a news article, required or not.

Which is why I commented on the article title, not the thread title. But I do think the broad statement that conservatives are racist merits response.

Okay, it's best if I go ahead and let you all have your say.

I posted the article. I agree with it.

I think Cruz is an idiot. And the GOP contenders are all clowns. There, I said it.

Now, fight it out amongst yourselves, and don't forget to call us "libtards" and "liars" and all those other savory pejoratives you embrace at will!

It's YOUR reputations at stake, not mine. It's YOUR presidential hopeful that made that statement.

Now - once more - are YOU going to vote for him?
And if so, why?
And if not, why?

FDR has been dead for 70 years, what's the relevance to the topic of modern American Conservatism? Wilson and LBJ were bigots too, again what would be the relevance? The OP is discussing living politicians who currently hold office.

Seems like you can't really argue with the OP's premise so you're deflecting?

Sometimes, bigotry is manifested in the subtle way a person can dismiss the lived experiences of those ideological others as if they were nothing, utterly erasing those experiences, consigning them to the ashbin of history like so much irrelevant refuse.

Ooooo, it's so easy when you start putting things in that perspective. No wonder the left just utterly ignores every concern others have. They just assign a convenient negative label to it and *woosh!* no need to worry about it ... that concern is utterly irrelevant.

another assumption, thats appropriate.........

No thats how uninformed, bigoted progressives see us, because its popular and "in" .....

Making blanket statements about an entire group and espousing slanderous terms toward them is bigoted.....

i thought Progressives want everything in the name of diversity and tolerance?

i see no tolerance for anyones opposing view.....

So instead of respect, people like you make them an enemy and a target, you know because youre so evolved and tolerant of other people...

Amazing.........

you lack the courage of your convictions sir
