Ah thank you

I really want a colour picture of my local beach sand now, pretty jealous!
Hmm, might see if I can get my son to sort one out at college, I really love the tiny world we can't usually see.

Wonderful. When I was a kid at the beach I use to closely examine grains of sands with the naked eye and be amazed.

I love threads like this and this was a true joy to visit and admire...

To our friends that havent quite got it figured out yet(how to get there and view these images). Simply right click the link and choose "Copy Link Location", then open up another browser window (or use this one but come back and comment on the thread please), now simply paste it in the URL window and press enter.

This is how sand looks magnified 300x

Oh, wow, folks - DO check out his website. Even more astounding photos. The sand is from all over the world, and he identifies what their species or origin is (like bits of sponge or single-celled critter shells).

Fantastic.

OMG that site is amazing.

It's not just sand......

JohnnyAnonymous, you sir are the man. Below is:

"A small capillary in the lung is full of red blood cells seen in orange. The dark blue spaces are air sacs. The walls of these tiny sacs (alveoli) carry red blood cells close to the oxygen rich air sacs, which is where the red blood cells pick up oxygen and give off carbon dioxide."

That picture is from: Sandgrains.com as linked above by johnny.

I'm assuming those grains of sand have been arranged together to make a great photo.

I'm not saying it isn't beautiful, I'm just saying..

Missed this thread when you posted it. Very very cool. S+F
I've surfed my whole life and never stopped to think of what that stuff between my toes would look like under a micro.

Beautiful pictures..

I've travelled a decent amount and have never seen a place I thought was ugly (till I enter a city),even in the desert on a clear night watching the moon rise..

Or the fog rolling in slowly enveloping everything it touches.

The earth is an amazing place and I agree I'll miss it when my time is up.

wanna see something really cool under a microscope? It's called a tartigrade, nicknamed the water bear. It's a microscopic animal that resembles a bear. The scientific community has labelled it the most extreme life form on Earth.

Yeah!!! Those little guys are so CUTE!!

"Water bears". Tardigrades.
It was hecate (our fellow member) who had one on her avatar a couple of years ago.

Amazing little things! If they don't make a person pause and think, I don't know what would!
