Weather / Wind / Current and / or the Gulf Stream push bait closer to shore - more sharks are closer to shore.

There are loads and loads of sharks in shallow water.

wtvr.com...

No surprise as the waters off the east coast are very warm & the sharks apparently frisky. People need to maybe quit going in the water? or at least admit they are currently taking a larger risk this yr?

I don't know why people like the ocean so much anyway... The sound is much warmer, gentler, and easier to fish in. Less sharks too.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of large methane gas vents erupting in the waters off the East Coast. These plumes of gas are pushing sea life into the shores.

Got a text from the son.
Saying he heard a group of people say the shark was 10 - 12 ft. long.
Someone had informed a news crew it was 7 - 8 ft. long.

Thanks! Didn't think of that!!

www.youtube.com...

People forget or don't know what these animals are physically capable of. They can maneuver from actual beach back into the surf. Minute 1:08 especially relevant.

That is probably correct. The beach at Ocracoke has a very shallow slope out to about 30 or 40 yards and then a steep drop-off.

You are right, the Sound is pretty sweet.
I like fishing under the bridge at Oregon Inlet.

which shark?
there should be so many by now you can't count them.
if you go fishing around NC off shore you see sharks all the time.
They are not uncommon, and the amount of food in close is pretty crazy.

I'm staying out of the water this year.

You get over the mud when you're water skiing (try that on the ocean), kayaking, having cookouts, And the water is actually nice and warm. That 60-65 degree (usually) ocean water makes me freeze to death.

Surf? I've lived here my whole life and never seen anyone surf out there. I'm sure it happens, but I've never seen waves big enough unless we're in a hurricane.

As for the ladies... Well, let's just say I have a different taste than most guys, and you won't find my kind of woman in a bikini at the beach.

The only time I have seen surfers down there was at Pea Island when a tropical storm was swiping the coast.

Please - nobody ask the question, just don't do it and let this one lie.
