Its a laser guided munition.

If it was a BAD shot, then that would be of great concern.

I have yet to hear the guys actually using them complain about it. They gripe about some things, but overall they are impressed with them.

An Iraqi helicopter that they dropped a laser guided bomb on while it was about to land.

That must have sucked knowing you were almost back down and you get hit with a laser guided bomb...

I dont think he even knew what hit him actually.

It would have made more sense to go for the body though instead of through the rotor hub like they did.

I only had a chance to talk with two NA's. It was like they were dating centerfolds. chests out and mile wide smiles.

When the RAF flew off the Wasp they were all shocked at what they could do with it compared to the Harrier.

Apropos of nothing at all, is that video available for perusal somewhere?

A friend said he thought it sounded pretty awesome...

It's what you get from 'multi-purose' machines...

What a waste of taxpayer money.

I'm willing to be proven wrong, Zaph.

...and I hope I am. I'd hate to have that kind of money tied up in a lemon...

I loved the vids in 2011 from the Wasp. They have recently been bumped in my favorites by this more recent vid Im sure you have seen...(warning: might want to turn speakers down)

Sure. I get your POV. Nothing wrong with it. I am not in the know like Zaph but I hear some stuff that is borderline sic-fi that these things can do.

It might be. It'll be a couple days before I can look for it though. Shoot me a message Wednesday and remind me.

A year or year and a half ago I was screaming for this thing to go away, and do it as fast as possible. I hated the thing. Now? I've had my eyes watered with what it can do.

I always flash back to

DIVAD, the air defense system that aimed at an exhaust fan in a toilet.

Or the Navys' Avenger attack bomber.

But hey, if it does the job, and gets the boys and girls flyin' it home when it matters? It's worth every penny.

That was a hella video. It just sort of floats off the deck...

How many of those is Wasp going to be able to carry? It's not a supercarrier after all.

plenty of bad allocations for sure in the history of military decisions. I am hopeful on this one. I don't know how many total the Wasp will hold but they had 6 testing and maintained their full variety and compliment of Helo's as they remained combat ready during the trials.

Sorry Zaphod, I concur with what few have said to you in other threads about the f35
It's a lame duck
Not because it's a bad aircraft, quite the contrary, it's amaizing
But too many cutting edge technologies coming together in some military industrial wet dream has been its downfall
Pilots love her when she can fly nice and engage at distance
Less when she wont shut down before they run out of runway
I remember someone telling you this a few years ago, a few months ago it was acknowledged and low and behold there was a thread on ATS I belive

Perhaps someone keeps trying to tell you something?

Depends on the mission. The America, which has a slightly different deck plan carries 6 as the standard compliment. But that's with 12 V-22s,4 CH-53s,7 AH-1s and 2 MH-60s. If she goes straight assault, 20 F-35s and 2 -60s.
