Just to clarify a few things about this "UFO study".

First of all, it is not really a study but a report requested by a member of Bundestag. The report was produced by the scientific service of the Bundestag. So i highly doubt that it will contain anything particlarly exciting.

The whole court issue came about simply because if they granted access to this document, they would also have to grant access to all other documents produced by the Bundestag services.

This is another talk he gave:

Nice one Zazz - found the pilot incident at 59:12 very interesting - especially what happened afterwards.

Germans
Don't mention UFO's, I mentioned it once and I think I got away with it.

Ha don't mention zee flying saucers - especially if your mentor to Werner Von Braun and the father of modern rocketry.

West Germany, which had been the scene of so many visits by the UFO's, including some reported landings, named the father of German Rocketry, the world- famous space-travel scientist, Professor Hermann Oberth, to head their UFO probe. After three years of studying the information supplied by his own and other governments, the outspoken Oberth said at a news conference in 1954:

"There is no doubt in my mind that these objects (UFO's) are interplanetary craft of some sort. I am confident that they do not originate in our solar system, but they may use Mars or some other body for a way station. It is also our conclusion that they are propelled by distorting or converting the gravitational field."

Also:

"The appearances are usually described as disks, sometimes as balls or ellipsoids. It sometimes happens that these disks place one upon the other, the largest in the center, the smaller toward the ends, to form an object the shape of a cigar, which then flies away with high speed. Sometimes one already saw such a cigar (UFO) stopping and untie into separate disks. The disks always fly in a manner as if the drive is acting perpendicular to the plane of the disk; when they are suspended over a certain terrain they keep horizontal; when they want to fly very quick, they tilt (tip) and fly with the plane directed forward. In sunlight, which is brighter than their own gleaming, they appear glittering like metal. They are dark orange and cherry red at night, if there is not much power necessary for the particular movement, for instance, when they are suspended calm. Then, they also do not shine very much. If more driving power is necessary, the shining increases (brightens) and they appear yellow, yellow-green, green like a copper flame and in a state of highest speed or acceleration extremely white. Sometimes they suddenly blink or extinguish.Their speed is sometimes very high, 19 km/sec has been measured with wireless measuring instruments (radar). Accelerations are so high that no man could stand it; he would be pressed to the wall and bruised. The accuracy of such measurements has not been doubted. If there would be only 3 or 4 measurements, I would not rely upon them and would wait for further measurements, but there is existing more than 50 such measurements; the wireless sets (radar) of the American Air Force and Navy, which are used in all fighters, cannot be so inaccurate that the information obtained with them can be doubted completely".

Good recent update and timeline presentation by Robert Fleischer exploring how the BND systematically conducted IFO research and lied to the general public about it.

UFOs don't exist in Germany - officially, at least. While the German government denies any interest in flying saucers, its military seriously claims that they never had anything unusual on their radar screens which they could not eventually identify. Thus, you hardly ever hear anything from Germany about UFOs. The German journalist and researcher Robert Fleischer is trying to change that. For more than 13 years, he has been working to find out what the German government really knows about UFOs, digging into government archives and asking questions to politicians and the military. In his presentation, he discusses what the German Bundestag knows about Flying Saucers, how the German intelligence agency BND investigated UFO reports during the Cold War, what politicians say about the subject and how it all relates to the situation in Germany after World War II.

A very interesting German case is the Plauen case from 1994.

Several witnesses saw a UFO in the town of Plauen, Germany, in the late evening of May 21, 1994.

The first witness (`H’) was looking out from her balcony at 23:00 (1st floor apartment) and first saw a young tree that was illuminated by a shaft of light and bending down as if it was struggling against a strong wind. When she looked upwards she saw a disc shaped UFO hanging in the air about 100 m away, encircled with lights and dark trapezium-shaped windows. The top lights and bottom lights rotated in opposite directions. After a while the UFO slowly flew away (and the tree went back to normal), she could follow it for a while while it flew among the buildings.

The second witness (`Martina S’, a friend of `H’) lived with her daughter on the top floor of a 12 story apartment. She was asleep when the third witness, Martina’s friend `A’, living on the 3th floor, called her and told her a UFO was floating in front of her apartment. When Martina went to take a look, she saw a UFO floating outside just 6 meters away. It was large enough to cover the entire window of her apartment. It looked silver-metallic and had two rows of running lights rotating in opposite directions and a row of dark trapezium shaped `windows’ that frightened her. She thought it was attempting to land on the roof. Panicking, she took her 4 year old daughter and ran downstairs to the 3th floor apartment of her friend `A’.

Both women then carefully went to the 3th floor balcony and looked upward. The UFO was still there, going up and down like a yo-yo. Each time they looked upward from the balcony, they felt a strong draft of wind that seemed to come from the UFO. They also saw a hole in the low clouds above the UFO. Then it went further upwards, tilted, and flew away at great speed.
Martina did not feel safe in her apartment anymore and moved. When she was interviewed later by MUFON-CES, she still refused to enter her previous apartment.

A questionnaire sent by MUFON-CES to 500 addresses in the neighborhood two years later yielded one new witnesses who confirmed the sighting and the hole in the clouds. His drawing of the object corresponds with the description of the women. A neighbor of `H’, whom she knew also saw the UFO, told her that he threw away the questionnaire because he ‘did not want anything to do with it’.

The fourth witness, Michael G., came out in 2016. He remembers watching the UFO when he was a boy. He even looked at it through binoculars, standing next to his father, and made a drawing of what he recalls seeing.
He remembers the UFO moving erratically like a ping pong ball. It was silver metallic with lights and dark windows. When it slowly flew away they lost sight of it.

The explanation from the police (who got a lot of calls that night) was disco lights on the clouds. Witnesses who saw the UFO from afar agreed to this explanation.

This video is in German as well, and gives a visual impression.

edit on 8-10-2020 by Guest101 because: called it a rural area but it actually was a town ...

Thanks for sharing that one Guest101 and will have to brush up on my German - 6 meters away is pretty close range lol.

Witness sketch at the link did put me in mind of this great thread from Sherpa (lots more images posted on thread).

These are drawings from sighting reports collected by MUFON-CES Germany which have handled UFO reports across Europe.
