We watched Pandorum last night and it reminded me how much I like that movie as well as how underrated/unknown it is. Another Sci-Fi movie that I think is even better quality is Sunshine. Made by the same man who did 28 days later, Sunshine is about a future mission to reboot our dying sun. I love the drama and the acting and I think it's probably the most underrated Sci-fi movie ever.

Don't know Pandorum but do agree with you on Sunshine - heavy stuff.

I liked Titan A.E. Haven't watched it in a while but I remember it being a favorite of mine when I was younger.

Sunshine is great and has one of the best soundtracks of all time...John Murphy I think did it.

I haven't seen Pandorum, but I wholeheartedly agree on Sunshine.
That's one of the better sci-fi movies I've seen - although the premise itself isn't stellar, the execution is amazing.

I watched 'Ex Machina' this week, and LOVED that. It's pensive and thoughtful and complex.
I'd put Solaris in the underrated category too.
I know a lot of people didn't like it, but I think people misunderstood the intent. It's another pensive, slowly unfolding sci-fi movie, but an excellent one (and an even better book: if you haven't read it, drop everything and sort your crap out).

I'll be interested to see what other suggestions crop up... but for now I should check to see if Pandorum is on Netflix.

The Black Hole (1979). Interesting take on what would happen if humanity (on a spaceship), would get stuck on the gravity well of a black hole. Campy, but I enjoyed it.

Good one.

Dark Star, one of John Carpenters early entries.

Sunshine

LOVED that movie. I thought it was highly under rated and ignored, just because it didn't have something blowing up or blood splashed across the screen every 2 minutes.

Many would probably not consider it science fiction, but I thought the movie "She" was a brilliant study on how humans and artificial intelligence may interact in the not too distant future.
And on the campy side, the "Flash Gordon" movie from the 80's totally kicked ass.

The title 'she' reminds me of the pheonix movie Her which came out recently. That one was really good on that topic. a reply to: skunkape23
