Good news for Cubans.
An oil deposit containing up to 100 million barrels of oil has been discovered off the coast of Santa Cruz del Norte, east of Havana.

Cuba currently consumes about 150,000 barrels of oil per day.
About half of that is imported.
With this new discovery, which could start production in 2006, they will be able to reduce imports a bit.

They say there could be large quantities of oil in Cuba's waters in the Gulf of Mexico.
Perhaps there's a chance that one day, Cuba can eliminate oil imports entirely or even become an exporter.

It wouldn't surprise me (with their latest Venezuela visit) a chinese oilcompany would move in on this one, they have the tech to do it and the chinese need all the oil they can get plus it's politcally kinda Castro giving the middle finger to Bush again...

[pure speculation mode]

also it wouldn't surprise me if we NOT gonna see a invasion in Iran, because china might already supplied iran with a few nukes , in order to secure the flow of oil from iran to china???)
