Why are we not seeing rural areas, with their high level of firearms, blown to pieces and people being shot every day?

Might it have something to do with urban culture or the situations and people who gather in there.

So how often does a police officer get murdered well protecting the streets with a shoelace or bed sheeting?

Wait--i thought we were supposed to hate the police.

No, we're supposed to hate abuse of power.

And you want those who abuse power to be the only people armed why?

Well, it makes for a far more laid back society, our police don't go around shooting people for benign reasons. If a cop pulls you over here, you can just jump out of the car and ask "what's up mate". Apparently that could get you shot in the US.

Maybe if the gun laws weren't so lax over there, then the cops probably wouldn't be so on edge and trigger happy.

The father broke the law when he made a "strawman" purchase of a firearm (buying one for someone else).

The father then broke the law when he gave the gun to the punk for his birthday (providing a firearm to a felon).

The punk then broke the law by bringing a firearm into a church.

3 laws were broken before he even pulled the trigger.

Yet more laws would have stopped this?

Correct, more laws won't help!

Then perhaps what we have is a law enforcement problem. But enforcement will bring cries of "confiscation" from the gun culture.

catch 22 delema imo

more people die in car accidents, are they outlawed regulated strictly? (no we let 14 year olds drive in some states 16 in most)

I am way more likely to be killed by a teen texting while driving than a legal gun owner by astronomical odds

What we have is criminals with no regard for the law.

We have laws against drug use.

Therefore, there isn't a drug problem in America, because we have laws against it and everyone obeys the law, correct?

Or, if police would return to the "public servant" mindset.

Come on man they just have a different culture doesn't make them stupid.

Yes they are stupid, and unfortunately not only do they have the most guns, they also have the least regard for human life, and the biggest military too.

Back in the day when their rights were written there was a clear and immediate danger that England might re-invade, so it made sense for everyone to be armed, since they didn't have a military back in the 18th Century.

250 years later they have the biggest military force in the world, have been at war with practically everyone at some point, and yet still think that having a handgun will "protect" them for a tyrannical government that has Apache helicopters that can blow you to smithereens from 10 miles away, jet fighters that can deliver missiles that will atomise you from 100+ miles away, and tanks and other armoured vehicles that are bullet proof and could crush you like an ant.

But hey, we all need guns to "protect our rights"

They are utter and complete morons and can't see that the only people who are benefiting are the share holders of the companies who make guns, and of course criminals as well - and presumably none of these fools are either of those people.

These fools are the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, daughters, sons, grandparents, etc of the people who are needlessly killed.

But hey "it's our right to bear arms"!

Morons, idiots, and fools the lot of them.

Gonna have to agree here that people who think that being armed is keeping everyone safe are on a different level of idiot.

Unfortunately, they are so in love with their guns they cant see the truth.

But dont worry, there will be another mass shooting next week. And we will say the same thing again and they will keep denying the US has a gun problm.

And the week after...and the week after etc...Kids will die, parents will die, teenagers will die, old folk will die and these morons will cling to their guns even harder. Pathetic.

Does anyone think there are still people that would sacrifice their lives for a cause they think is greater than themselves?

Can a person be programmed and/or his mind altered chemically or psychologically to perform the most heinous deeds imaginable without being aware that he had been used?

Are certain "at risk" individuals hand picked to be used by whoever the agenda-makers are?

I'm not saying Roof was anything but a killer, and the nine victims anything but a prayer group meeting at this particular historical church, but I do know that gun control in America is one of the UN's objectives, and it is one of Obama's agenda items. He even assigned it to the CDC trying to turn it into a "health" issue and the UN considers it a "human rights" concern.

I am just thinking outside the box here without making any assumptions. After all, this is ATS and that's what we do. Stranger things have happened in this world. And the 99.99999% of law-abiding solid citizen Americans are a big problem for those wanting to disarm the last bastion on the planet of individual freedoms and rights.

We have a culture that "victimizes" the guilty and demonizes the victims.

Everything is the fault of society.

Not the individual.

We coddle those that break the laws and castigate those that obey them.

Welcome to America in the 21st Century.

Over 3,000 people die from accidental drowning as well, but society turns a blind eye to that, too. No outrage, no calls to ban swimming pools. But yeah, its different, because it just is. Funny, though. It probably doesn't seem much different to those 3,000 or their families.

Where is the rage on automobiles people? Oh, there must not be an agenda to stop people from driving (never herd Obama talk about it) it happens 100's of time per day if not thousands.

Don't worry. There are so many who are terrified of guns that they will quite happily hold up dead children and tell gun owners it's their fault, even if they live 1800 miles away.

Don't worry, the gun grabbers will be there to stand on the backs of murder victims and blame gun owners every where for it.

Unfortunately they're so terrified they can't see issues like mental health, racism, or any other contributing factor because it's all about the guns.

A reasonable middle ground is out of the question. The only solution is to take away all the guns, even the ones used only for hunting, because only then will America be safe. Murders will cease. Robberies won't happen. Violent crime will be a distant memory for all.

Ah, the old "more people are killed in car accidents" non-argument.

Well, cars are made to get you from A to B, and because there are so many of them sometimes they ACCIDENTALLY crash into each other, and sometimes people get hurt, or worse.

That sometimes happens with guns too, like when a child accidentally gets hold of a gun and accidentally kills their little brother or sister.

But of course guns aren't made to get you from A to B, they are made to kill people, so it probably isn't surprising that a lot of people kill other people using them.

I'm also more likely to be killed in AMERICA in a BLACK church by a WHITE supremacist carrying a gun than I am to be killed by a BLACK supremacist driving a CAR in England (which is where I live) - and I'm WHITE - so how'd you like them apples?

The thing that does not sit right with me is what he is supposed to have said...

No 'racist' would say I am here to shoot 'black people'...would he not use the n word, especially if that angry. Why would he hate a race so much but describe them in a non combative/degrading manner...

and that he left one alive..."to tell the story...."

was this the catalyst to lead us later this year into a certain 'military exercise' who this young man may be linked to when they search his computer?

A cop kills a convict and a city is burned to the ground...a 'white' person who kills 9 at a 'church'...what will the blow back be?

and the common denominator...psychotropic drugs

How well is that working out?

American culture feeds the system.

It's like a boat with a leak in it. That's our system. And instead of fixing the leak, we just use a bigger bucket (prisons) to bail out the water and say, "Problem solved!".

We ignore the leak itself. A society that doesn't value personal responsibility, ethics, morals, values.

I actually agree - you shouldn't let people with mental health issues have guns - so that discounts all Americans then.

Get read for a period of calm and no gun deathss.

Hoo Rah!

Where is the outrage over young men shooting at each other on streets almost every day and creating fear in the community. Too common place to create a sensational headline situation?

As long as average people fight with each other and stayed concerned over these events, race, etc those in power holding the riches of society can breathe a sign of relief. People will not be taking the time to question their actions.

There are a million reasons why not. #1: We don't WANT to.
