You do understand that the overwhelming majority of gun owners (again, the ones you haven't met) haven't murdered anybody right?

You do understand that people who want to murder somebody will do so however they can, right?

Which is why convicts use things like shoelaces and bedsheets to kill other convicts in prison, where even the guards don't have easy access to firearms, much less the "population."

You do understand that, right?

It's far harder for a skinny young white boy to wander into a church and murder 9 people including some bigger and stronger black dudes with a pen knife than it is for him to walk in with a killing machine - made solely for the purpose of killing - and shoot them all dead.

And hey, if you feel that way then let everyone carry around a pen knife then it's the same level playing field - it's just harder for the nutter to kill so many people.

Really, I can't fathom how a supposedly developed country can promote rights of ownership of a killing machine over the rights of the lives of others.

You should all be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves.

Actually, if one has disarmed and helpless people who are trapped and either willing and/or unable to defend themselves, he certainly could have killed them with a knife.

I can't fathom how a supposedly developed country would want to make it's honest citizens even more helpless.

Simply owning something does not infringe upon anyone else's right to anything.

Don't be so stupid - they'd have pummelled him to a pulp if he'd only had a knife.

And "having access to guns" worked well didn't it?

It didn't do anything for them at all, it just allowed the nutter to have one with him, the rest didn't - how many places do you go, or want to go, where everyone is carrying a gun?

You're all on a different planet.

So how often does a police officer get murdered well protecting the streets with a shoelace or bed sheeting?

Wait--i thought we were supposed to hate the police.

No, we're supposed to hate abuse of power.

Totally agree. And I don't think every last Tom Dick and Harry needs to have access to a .50 cal machine gun. I don't see a problem with background checks. I dislike gun show loopholes. And I don't think businesses should be stopped from not allowing guns on their property.

But I don't think taking all the guns away from everybody, ever, is the answer either.

As has been pretty clearly demonstrated, both sides love their rhetoric and I don't see that changing any time soon. Particularly not when neither side can wait to get their soapbox out and start ranting.

Does anybody know if there is a military background on this kid? I know the details were slim between 2010 and today (his years after dropping out of high school). Does anyone know if he had a GED or not (only way he could enlist as a drop out).

Yes they are stupid, and unfortunately not only do they have the most guns, they also have the least regard for human life, and the biggest military too.

Back in the day when their rights were written there was a clear and immediate danger that England might re-invade, so it made sense for everyone to be armed, since they didn't have a military back in the 18th Century.

250 years later they have the biggest military force in the world, have been at war with practically everyone at some point, and yet still think that having a handgun will "protect" them for a tyrannical government that has Apache helicopters that can blow you to smithereens from 10 miles away, jet fighters that can deliver missiles that will atomise you from 100+ miles away, and tanks and other armoured vehicles that are bullet proof and could crush you like an ant.

But hey, we all need guns to "protect our rights"

They are utter and complete morons and can't see that the only people who are benefiting are the share holders of the companies who make guns, and of course criminals as well - and presumably none of these fools are either of those people.

These fools are the mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, daughters, sons, grandparents, etc of the people who are needlessly killed.

But hey "it's our right to bear arms"!

Morons, idiots, and fools the lot of them.

Yep, it's that flag from the civil war that keeps society from changing it's ways.

Lack of economic opportunity and affordable education, extreme unequal wealth distribution and bought politicians have no significant part in the troubles of our society.

The government deal out death and destruction to obtain it's goal but expects it's citizens to not do the same.

Good point, and bad point

the vast majority instigated, backed, or directly caused by the US - but you think an outburst of violence in Libya for example means you all need guns in Idaho'you're really the biggest idiots on the face of the earth aren't you?

Yes, because even we know what our government is capable of, a gun in Idaho may be the only thing stopping the big machine from destroying/controlling the whole world.

Yes, but its much easier to dismiss an opposing viewpoint if you mock and ridicule it. Of course, it tends not to be an effective strategy for winning people to your argument. It seems people don't like being insulted much.

So the issue is guns again?

Seems that way on the main scream. Its not murder, its a "shooting".

Obama was on the tube yesterday blaming the "easy access to guns".

Riiight, Mr. Orator… your government has the corner on providing easy access to murderous despots the world over.

They would? Or would they have done what they did here--nothing?

He stopped to reload several times. During that time he had what amounted to a very badly designed billy club.

It was illegal to carry a gun into a church. That particular gun law worked very well, didn't it?

Yes, we do live on a different planet--one called "reality."

If the "big machine" wanted to destroy you then you'd already be dead.

Could you shoot down an Apache with your peashooter of a gun?

Do you even think that servicemen, who are from you, who have family and friends within you would even want to do that?

Have your guns stopped the shameful invasion of other countries and the ACTUAL LIVES of over 1 million people (in just Iraq & since)?

Have your guns stopped Sandy Hook and other atrocities?

the answer to all of these questions is NO!

But yet you still want guns on the streets?

Why?

What useful purpose do they serve your society?

Perhaps a little information...The firearm industry, shooting sports, hunting, is a multi billion dollar industry in America.
It's capitalism and it's not going away! No one is going to take your guns away! However...

business.time.com...

Firearm ownership needs to be regulated to people that can take responsibility in their lives...no violent felons, no drunks, spousal abusers, or nut jobs!

Obviously Dylann Roof didn't meet that criteria and America suffers; and it's going to get worse...much worse, with Dylann being hailed as a hero in some extreme Right wing circles; and those folks are heavily armed.

The father broke the law when he made a "strawman" purchase of a firearm (buying one for someone else).

The father then broke the law when he gave the gun to the punk for his birthday (providing a firearm to a felon).

The punk then broke the law by bringing a firearm into a church.

3 laws were broken before he even pulled the trigger.

Yet more laws would have stopped this?

Because people are dying - by being shot by them?

Please read back through ny previous posts, you'll understand why - you don't need guns anymore, King George is dead, he isn't going to invade you, and you now have a military.
