HATE when I double...HEY what has ANYONE heard about a NOTAR Apache in England?
THOSE aren't supposed to exist by the way.

There is no advantage to redesigning it for a NOTAR, and a lot of disadvantages.

I would rather watch helos overhead than watch some of the sh#t on TV.

I like the Battle of Britain recon...it's the 75 anniversary isn't. God bless the few!

NOTAR is a little wanting in a crosswind. The MD-530 and MD-900 both use this system but you don't see them much. The only military organization that flies the NOTAR is the Coast Guard that has a couple MD-900s.

It uses the Coanda effect to give it the same authority as a tail rotor.

It adds a decent amount of weight, quite a bit of complexity, and the only real advantage to it is the fact that you don't have to worry about anything hitting the tail rotor anymore.

I thought it was quieter as well.

It is, but you can get a lot of noise reduction from rotor shaping, and other technology.

this Merlin flew over the house about an hour ago. It's got it's back doors down. I know they have their maintenance nearby.
they mostly fly with the ramp down. The loady sits on it in flight manning a mounted weapon. It's nothing out of ordinary.

As is the case with the lynx.

That was probably just MFWIC meeting someone.

Not seen any adapted AH64's but got strafed by a conventional one in some sort of high speed, target locking exercise whilst driving my car on a Motorway once.

The Lynx was an helo before its time. It set the speed record for "pure helos" (246mph) many years ago and I think it still stands. If you look at the rotor tips of the Merlin. They were pioneered by the Lynx and were call BERB...British Experimental Rotor Blades. If you look at most high performance helos, they all have this type of rotor blades.
