Sure....we are going to have bad cops, just as there are bad people in every profession. I believe every single video was of a prior multiple offender criminal being shot if I am not mistaken. If you want to make a statement then start putting up the videos of the innocent ones that were pulled over for a traffic ticket and were shot....I couldn't find any.

As far as the OP's other agenda of guns....you have mentioned them on a couple occasions in this thread. So...what happens when you give a big, smart person a gun? It is not the weapon, it is the individual.

I personally like my police force in my area. They are nice people. They help out when someone has a flat tire, they smile and say hello when you see them around. I was stopped one time by an officer for running a red light and speeding when I had my pregnant wife in the car and when he saw the situation he gave me an escort to the hospital instead of a ticket and a scolding. I see many of them at the range I go to, and have never once heard any of them speak of harming a citizen, criminal or not.

Don't fool yourself with the media coverage you get wherever you are. I said this in a prior thread about a similar thing.....if we are to believe media then why don't the Brits do something about all the children being molested....I hear about how rampant that is all the time, but I have the ability to see that it is tragic topics that sell news.

Police officer deaths here are rare. Cases like this happen from time to time but are not the norm. And at the end of the day you don't join the Police for a safe and comfortable job Or police are Brave men and women who know the risks and on the whole do a great job. Mostly.

There are many would-be bank robbers (for example) out there too, but we have to wait until they rob a bank, or attempt to before we can do anything. Same with cops, incompetent doctors, people who want to pee in your food at Hardee's.

We have to deal with them on an individual basis.

Here's an old cliché -- don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

You obviusly don't live in America.

What you are experiencing is called "mean world syndrome"
or in your case "mean cop in America syndrome"

This is a real psychological phenomenon,
(google it and read about it)
it is when you watch too much TV news
to much TV in general
read too much about negativity in on the internet.
You get a misperception of what the entire world/country
is like.

For every cop on TV or talked about on ATS,
there are thousands upon thousands
that never make the news.
That hand out their tickets, that respond
to calls for help, that never, ever, ever,
make the news or ATS, because what
they do is frankly boring and expected.

With TV and mass media,
if one person experiences something horrific
word travels the entire globe at the speed of lightening.
Giving the impression that it happens frequently
in the world/country, when the entire reason it
made the news was it's uniqueness.
What happened was most likely a 1 in 7Billion
event. But it is perceived by the world as happening
7 Billion times, rather than 1 time.

That is what is happening in the US right now.
There are bad police, yes, I won't deny it at all.
But for every policeman who makes a bad choice,
there are thousands upon thousands who make
good choices and help the community.

Look at Baltimore,
they asked for the police to back off and leave
the minority community alone (Baltimore is 64% black)
and less than 30% white. So backing off on arresting
"minorities" meant backing off and not arresting 70%
of the criminals.
The result, massive crime, killing sprees, etc.
People upset that the police did what they were asked,
to stop policing 70% of the population of the city.
What does that tell you?
That most of the police were doing their job
before everyone got upset at a few rotten apples
and over reacted and forced the decent police
to stop doing their jobs.
Resulting in the worst crime and murder spree
Baltimore has ever seen.

So, if you want America to clean up it's few
bad apples,
what have you done to clean up your few bad apples,
in your own backyard.

The opinions you see on ATS are for the most part
over reactions and gross exaggerations,
just as you see on TV,
because the posters
are also steeped in the fictional "mean world"
created by the media.

This. A lot of places have mean cops. Heck, American service members knew to steer clear of German cops because they'll jack you up for any little thing.

Ah. "getting caught with a knife" and "attacking someone with a knife" is comparing apples to mazdas.

People break the law around me every day ( i live in one of the worst slums in America). The cops don't run around killing people. Hell, they don't even arrest that many people anymore.

It's escalation of force. Violence is met with violence and/or respect in kind. You use fists they use a baton, you pull a knife they pull a gun. Cops are not there to show off MMA skills. They travel one to a car and have no idea how many friends and/or accomplices you may have in waiting.

(in the current Texas case the adult male approached the cops right hip and made a play for his pistol. The cop saw him, the guy bolted and the cop pulled the pistol to secure it and ensure that plan wasn't tried again. Once that idea was quashed the pistol was put away. Any unbiased observer can see what took place with regards to that cop and that pistol)

A deteriorating society will require a more and more physical police force. The two feed off one another I would think. As society fails it becomes more lawless requiring the police to be more heavy handed. This causes the people to react, which cause the police to respond. Eventually, society will be unable to find men and women willing to to police the community or people too corrupt to protect the average citizen.

Hmmm...so we take the guns away from the mean cops and suddenly they become nice cops? Interesting theory.

I love the lack of logic in this thread. "Police are mean and dangerous and vicious killers so we want them to be the only people with guns." It makes no sense.

Take the guns away NOW and send them into situations where everybody has a gun but them?

Uh, no.

You are right, every country has it's mean cops.

It is just with the proliferation of iPhone (etc)
more are being recorded
creating the impression that the problem
is worse than it is.

Someone find over 1,100 different videos
of 1,100 different cops, in 1,100 different locations,

then I'll believe there is a real systemic problem
and it is not the usual assorted bad apples
in absolutely every bunch of cops on earth

Right now all you guys and the media have
proved is that far far less than .01% of the
police in the US are bad.

Wow! less than .01%, that would mean
you found 11,000 separate instances
in separate locations, with 11,000 different
cops: have any of you located 11,000
videos yet?

Then you haven't proved anything other
than less than 0.01% of police are bad
in the US.

A real epidemic huh?

Mean world syndrome" is a term coined by George Gerbner to describe a phenomenon whereby violence-related content of mass media makes viewers believe that the world is more dangerous than it actually is. Mean world syndrome is one of the main conclusions of cultivation theory.

There is currently a mass delusion of
mean world syndrome going on in the US
regarding the police.

I love the logic of this argument.

I leave class, rob a bank, kill three people, then set the place on fire. I walk out and shoot three cops as they approach. I cross the street and a cop shoots me.

Headline says - Cops shoot college student for jaywalking!

am I doing it right?

I'll come back and do some answers, I'm at work and it just got busy...

However, do read my previous posts in other threads, I am certainly not against the right to have a gun. I respect that right.

We're getting to the point that it is the individual not the gun... Hence why I asked the question on the previous page "So we're saying it's the right to bear arms.... etc"

I want to know why these people are given guns. I want to know why it's ok to shoot a person who has a knife.

We aren't saying that. You may be saying it. Or implying it.

But pretending that the amount of guns in the U.S. doesn't have any impact on the arming of police is absurd.

If by doing it right, you mean advocating criminal behavior and assaulting police officers, then yes, you nailed it!

All you foreigners need to understand something, America is different than your Countries. Not sure why you want us to change or be more like y'all. It ain't gonna happen!

We are not in immediate peril from an out of control police force. Stop with the fear mongering!
