This is a tongue-in-cheek reply so don't anybody get all upset .

I've noticed a significant gulf between many posters here. And one segment is severely discriminated against. That is us older posters on ATS .

We should have a place to bitch, moan and be cranky like we are entitled to . (Lol) We could also lecture younger people on how things were back our days !!!!

Just think of the endless entertainment the older generation could enjoy . Because myself I feel entitled to sit around and lecture the younger generation.

The endless debate with a sprinkling of phrases like "you'll learn" , " just you wait-and-see " , " your generation is to pampered " " back in my day we used pen and paper "and The ever favorable " I used to walk 10 miles to school uphill ".

I guess this should've probably gone into Rant but my memory slips sometimes .

Uh.,,,,,um ...., what was I talking about again ? Oh yeah discrimination , to be fair there should be a new subform .

I suggest one of two titles "Geriatric corner" Or " Get off my lawn " !!!

"I used to walk 10 miles to school uphill"

My dad used to say he walked 10 miles to school in 5ft of snow, uphill...both ways!?

I used to think he was kidding, but now I'm not so sure.

I like old people! I've found it's best to just sit back and listen when I find a "good ol boy" or gal, who has something to say.

Thank you for the validation of the old "just you wait-and-see "adage .

It will change just you wait and see.
After I walked ten (10) miles to school today I read about the old days and I learned a thing or 2.

Sinuhe the Egyptian ( Mika Waltari´s book ) quote, one of my favorites is

"your words are like the buzzing of the flies in my ears"

So let them buzz as much as they want.. one ear in.. one ear out

and another

"“Even were the time to come when there would be neither poor nor rich, yet there will always be wise and stupid, sly and simple, for so there have ever been and ever will be. The strong man sets his foot on the neck of the weakling; the cunning man runs off with the simpleton's purse and sets the dunce to work for him. Man is a crooked dealer and even his virtue is imperfect. Only he who lies down never to rise again is wholly good.” "

many times i have been treated like a young girl.. which i am not anymore lol.. i don´t care !

I've noticed and experienced the same thing although I can't quite understand how anyone would have figured out that I'm over the age of 50. But...I don't let it bother me because I've come to realize that in a nation where each generation is expected to remake the nation and its existence according to their preferences, anyone over the age of 50 no longer has any relevance to the future because...anyone over 50 has no future other than a pine box. So, those over 50 are of the past, those younger than that are of the future that is yet to be made.

But wait, there's more! Because of the accelerated rate of "change" in the world today, the experiential value that those over 50 used to bring to the table has also dropped to nothing. So, for example, I know how to rebuild and properly adjust a carburetor. In today's world, that's about as useful as knowing how to drive a team of mules. So, sharing our "experience" is entirely out of context to the modern world. Obsolescence has accelerated in relation to the "change" rate.

Isn't that why old folks favor scatter-guns?

I think anyone would be foolish and remiss if they didn't take the opportunity to learn from an older generation. On that note, at what age should I start carrying around a spare pair of underwear?

You're kind of taking all the fun out of this thread.

But I have a counter .

" those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it "
