Quite the interesting little site I came across today!

Audioscrobbler provides a small plugin to ride along with most major media players and uses it to make a profile of your musical tastes. It then provides recommendations of other songs/artists you might like based on what you already listen to. There are also forums based on artist, genre, geographic location, and a million other topics.
Seeing as I'm always looking for new and exciting things with which to please my ears, I'm sold.

Plus it's fun to laugh at what your friends listen to.

The software is all open-source, and song reporting is anonymous, so those of us concerned about our privacy need not be concerned.
How is my privacy protected?

If anyone wants to point & laugh at what I listen to . . .

Well, now that some ATSers are joining up, I started an ATS group at Audioscrobbler. Let's see what ATSers listen to!

Sign on up for an account and join the group here, if you'd like.

Anyone from ATS who "applies" for the group will get approved, no worries. I just didn't want random people joining & stuff, ya know? We fear outsiders.
Tho, it is helpful when y'all are telling me who you are on Scrobbler.

DLM, I prefer to think my musical taste is "unique."

Okay ...

Say you listen to music on your computer already using something like Winamp.
With Audioscrobbler, you download a small plugin for your player (i.e. Winamp) and it gathers the title and artist of the songs you listen to. It then puts them all together on your profile page (mine) ... and when you've played enough songs to build up a listening profile, it'll recommend some other types of music you might like based on what you already like.

It's also fun to see what your friends listen to.

EDIT: and you need to have music to listen to on your computer already

It's quite easy to do, both of you!

If you have music on your computer already, just open Winamp, open the folder with your music, and drag the files onto the Winamp screen.
Don't forget to download and install the plugin for Winamp.

Once you have both installed, go to Winamp and press Ctrl-P. That will bring up your preferences window. Under "Plug-Ins," select "Media Library."
You should see an entry on the right that says "Audioscrobbler for Winamp" -- double click on that.
Enter your Audioscrobbler username and password in the box that pops up and then click "Save."

That's all you have to do.
