I don't see how they could remake it without messing it up. All original cast, where they can. Another member said that Victor (who played Egg) is dead. Maybe have his character dead in the movie. I don't know. Definitely have John Carpenter direct it.

Now that I have been thinking about this. I think the best way to go about it. Would be to follow the pattern set by the Evil Dead remake.

Follow the same basic story as the original but radically change the main character. Do not have Dwayne Johnson play Jack Burton. Have him play a completely different type of character. Like the Evil Dead movies changed the lead from Bruce Cambell as Ash, to Mia played by Jane Levy. Both Evil Dead and the remake are practically the same but the main character is different.

Then somewhere during the movie have someone say something like. This has happened before. Then in an after credits scene have Kurt Russel appear as Jack Burton and say, "You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?" Fade to black. Just like the Evil Dead remake has Ash say, "Groovy" in the post credit scene.

That post scene credit in the Evil Dead Remake led to a television series that continues the story of the original, with the original cast and director, called Ash VS the Evil Dead, which will be coming out on STARZ soon. Now you have your remake and the set up for a continuation of the original. How cool would it be to have Kurt Russel come back as Jack Burton in a television show directed by John Carpenter, on cable or Netflix.

This way everyone wins. So many things are coming back in the realm of television these days. With the original creators and cast. From X-files to Twin Peaks to Full house. Why not this. Of course its too awesome to happen. So I will not hold my breath.

I haven't seen the Evil Dead remake. Kind of scared to. I liked the original movies a lot.
I didn't know about the series. I have to see that if it's the original cast.

Here is a LINK from a day ago that has the teaser trailer. Its coming out in the fall. Ash is going to be played by Bruce Cambell. And Sam Raimi is going to at least script and direct the first episode. Not sure about the rest. But he is Executive producing the whole thing.

Talk about your teaser trailer. It looked cool. I hope it's on showbox when it comes out.

Ahh Kurt Russell was indeed Jack Burton... Wait, I mean he was Snake Plissken.

Or was Snake Plissken Jack Burton with an eye patch?

One thing Snake Russell was not, was Jack O'Neill.

Only MaCguyver could be Jack O'Neill, and definitely would not have worked out as Jack Burton.

What?

As much as this will likely blow, I still have to see it. The original is definitely one of my favorite cult classics.

"You come back...no more!"

"What?!!! What will come back no more? What the hell was that thing?!!!"

Thanks and no problem, I like these kind of threads as of late, just too much doom porn everywhere. Not saying I don't keep up with events but it is so important to unplug from the current times and events from time to time so we don't burn out.....

Yeah, I try to keep things light. I mostly post in BTS. I figure movie stuff is a good way for people to unwind if they need a break.

I would offer the role of Jack Burton to Bruce Campbell ( Army of Darkness and Buba Hotep ).

That would be cool. Or have him play Jack's twin brother, the joke being that they look nothing alike. I really liked him in Bubba Ho Tep. I also liked The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.

That is a great idea.
Film opens, Chinatown needs help and calls upon good ol' Jack Burton( Kurt Russel). He can't make it so he sends his twin brother John, also called Jack, Burton (Bruce Campbell).

Now that would be good. The name thing would add another level of humor as confusion sets in.

Ummmm maybe Hollywood should read this thread, either that or we should write scripts for Hollywood. This idea sounds better than most, if not all, of the tripe coming out of California these days.

You think it's easy to write a script and make a film? It's more work than you can possibly imagine.

Hmmm

Let me see if I have this right, I make a witty (or attempt at a witty) comment in there midst of a pipe dream conversation and I am told, in no uncertain terms, that I have no idea what I am talking about nor could I even come close to those GODS of entertainment in Hollywood.

Perhaps you should go back and reread the thread. You know the light hearted thread about who we think would be better in a movie that we like.

Then along comes Mr. Grumpypants. Claiming I have no idea of how tough writing can be, harder than I could possibly imagine. Well I imagine that hard physical labor in a harsh climate is the hardest thing to do.

But you, Mr. Grumpypants, know better than I. You must have written four, or five, blockbuster movies so you must know more than I, just a mere mortal.

Did you see that? I too can be mean and snarky. You want to join the conversation, by all means do so. Just be nice and polite. OK? OK.
