Do you think hating ones country would lead to good things, or would it be better if people loved their country enough to care about its future and fix things that are wrong?

You bring up things that happened in history that most anyone would agree were wrong. We know now they were wrong and as time progresses we slowly learn from our errors. What matters in my opinion, is what we do with our hard learned lessons, not constantly beating the drum of "yeah but" back in the day this and that happened. In fact, that attitude is destructive, not constructive.

I'll continue to love my country as I know if I hate it, I have no reason to do my part to make things better. I can do nothing about things that happened before my birth, nor do I share the guilt. The idea I do share in the guilt is disingenuous to say the least and those who would hold me guilty of things I had not part in are just haters and glass half empty people. What do they or their negativity add to the world? Not much.

I pity those who look to the sins of the past instead of looking forward to what the future can be. Not having hope or even faith that the future will continue to be better is a form of depression I would rather not share.

Everyone, no matter what country they are in should love their country enough to work towards a better future.

There was once a debate on the Cav Scout page on who was better the cold war scouts or the new conflict scouts since there weren't wars.
YOU are part of the family REGARDLESS and you are needed NOW as a protector.

It's almost a cult. Americans seem to love America no matter what is done in America's name.

Just like Christians, who have blind faith and won't even discuss any other options.

Having blind faith is worse than being a "Yes" man.

What's the point of your thread? Nationalism surely isn't confined to the shores of the US of A. Ever watch the Tour De France? World Cup? Any other international event?

Atrocities have been committed by every first world nation, Brits are probably at the top of that list, so please spare us your indignation.

Country what country,I am in Australia which has the population of California by 2017 we will of lost 200,000 manufacturing jobs since 2010 Ford,GM,Toyota,Mitsubishi,Caterpillar all gone,by the end of 2016 we will of lost 75000 mining jobs since 2014,ten years ago 13 per cent of Australians were in the top tax bracket now that is 3 per cent but the rich are getting richer the top 7 Australians are worth the bottom 1.73 million families.Free trade agreements with China,Japan and Korea and now the TPP has decimated the middle class youth unemployment is 20 per cent in areas and there are no decent jobs left.

Capital is now borderless and it moves at the slightest sniff of a bigger profit, corporations are now enthroned and agreements like the TPP are all about the loss of sovereignty and increase of corporate power hell you cant even put the country of origin on some goods now.

I can vote riot protest do what I damn well please but there are only two choices in this country Jesuits or Fabian Socialists and neither give a damn about joe average. There is no plan revealed to the public beyond the next election but that doesn't matter as a stadium and a six pack and a held held piece of garbage will keep the sheep entetrtained.

This no longer is the country I grew up in hell there is a suburb 2 suburbs away that is almost totally Islamic where you wonder what damn country you are in.

The western world is over, finito its fecked, with all our problems what is the major issue here this week, gay marriage. Its absurd.

Anyone over 40 years of age could write this post be they in the USA,Canada,Great Britain or Australia, like it or not we are headed back to feudelism the top 1 percent now own half the planet and you will soon be at their mercy for food accommodation and housing in return for 'protection'....the future is the past so damn my country its beyond repair those I love an care about are the only cause I can help now

No, it's not a cult. It's home. That's it for the most part. It's our home. It's nice when others like it, but if they don't, then that's okay too.

Perhaps a more appropriate question would go something like this:

How can anyone in law enforcement, let powerful criminal families
like the Bush cartel, run a muck thru out the land without consequence?
And actually believe they're contributing to our society? How can they
demand respect? The Bush Dynasty is the nastiest stinking beast, america
has ever known.

the beauty about patriotism is that they have the ability to show their love for whatever they want. I don't care about how radical they display their patriotism as long as they don't hurt anyone or bother me.

I don't see blantant patriotism everyday btw and I live in the south. The internet tends to paint a picture of what american are and its not accurate. we have 300 million people here and most elections are decided by the silent majority.

I always make a clear distinction between your down-to-earth American folk and the assholes running the country - simply because they are not representing what average Joe wants - that being a job, a decent income, a roof over their head and to reign-in the US governments wanton desire to free the crap out of countries on the other side of the planet leaving thousands and thousands of innocents dead in their wake.

For instance, I was in Houston and New Orleans again earlier this year for a few weeks and we went out most evenings after "work" for a session at the pub. Anyway, I always steered the conversation towards everything ATS (albeit in a non-confrontational, non conspiracy-theorist way) and was pleasantly surprised that even average Joe understands that the NSA is scum, the government is out for your guns, most "shootings" have weird events surrounding them and they just want real change at the next election - and Rand Paul is a clear favourite for them because, among other things, he wants to do away with the Patriot Act........I tell them to be careful what they wish for because he is first and foremost a politician and secondly Obama didn't change snip - except for the worse.......especially his promises to bring the troops home in the lead up to 2008.

Unfortunately, as they also agree, the propaganda is so embedded in American society that it is nigh impossible to separate truth from untruth.

So, I tell them to log on here and enlighten themselves like other yanks have.

Question for you...do you think the UK is less racist than the US? You guys are what 90% white over there yeah?

Seems pretty racist to me. Or is it because you have such a high % of white population that you just haven't had as many chances to show your bigotry?

As far as poverty is concerned, the US and the UK aren't much different. However, if you had anywhere near the amount of immigration(legal/illegal) the US has had over the last couple of decades, I wouldn't want to imagine what your economy/poverty statistics would look like.

Honestly though, for a Brit you really held back on the criticism. If the Brits are known for anything these days, it's their incredible gift of passive aggressive criticism of everybody else.

You know us so well, don't you. Oh, wait, no you don't... Now had you said, some Americans, or even most... But, no, you imply all of us are blind to the faults around us.

Just like Christians, who have blind faith and won't even discuss any other options.

...and can't help yourself by stereotyping all Christians, as blind followers.

Having blind faith is worse than being a "Yes" man.

The only correct thing in your whole post. Well done.

I love Australia. The people are great. They made some great cars(Holden). Awesome sense of humor as well. The Aussies and the Americans are incredibly similar. The problem is that nobody really cares about what Australia does. Nobody cares about what the UK does. As great as you guys are, until you become top dog like the US is, people won't care about you.

It's the same in anything...once you reach the top in sports, business, politics etc... you become a target.

The US is so polarizing around the world that if somebody farts here it's a big deal. Seriously...a celebrity in the US could fart and it could be news all around the world. It's a sad thing, but it's human nature to want to take down the people at the top.

By the way, this response was more towards the OP and the thread in general. Since you are from AUS, and I drive a G8 GT made in your awesome country, and love some of the shows there, have friends there etc...I figured I would reply to you.
