It works fine if you don't park there.

Guess we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

Soooo we've got people arguing UK vs US hydrant supplies and people saying what the fire fighters done was the right thing to do cos, ya know, every second is critical to saving lives.

Now, look at the pic in the op, which scenario from the following selection is the quickest result:

A. Smash window, run hose through, smash other window, connect hose to hydrant

B. Run hose over car, connect to hydrant

The fire fighters were being dicks!

So is your hydrant system of hoses and connectors in the US that poor you cannot negotiate obstacles?
We don't have that problem in the UK, and we can park anywhere near hydrants.

Seems like the obstacle was negotiated quite well.

They probably could if they had to, but they don't.
It is known that you don't park in front of a hydrant or this happens.

Don't get how it makes sense to make the firefighters work around you like you describe in the UK...

Because in the UK, everyone's castles are made of stone. With fire breathing dragons around, you have to make homes basically fireproof.

Have you ever tried to create a bend in a charged fire hose? It's damn near impossible. It's even more impossible to fix a kink in a charged line. That's why in every line you see, you see a straight hose.

The fire hose isn't live til it's connected so those 'kinks' wouldn't be an issue a reply to: EternalSolace

Those hoses are not bent they are just curving.

Just saying.

They deserved to have the car windows smashed. It's illegal to park in front of a fire hydrant, running in the house for one minute is NO. excuse. So that house should burn to the ground and possibly people inside it should die?
Hope she got a ticket as well and the car impounded.

Nice, particularly liked your last pic, almost like an invisible car was parked in front of the hydrant and shock horror, the hose was able to be maneouvered into position.

Nah, they must be magic hoses which the fire department in the OP couldn't source themselves...everyone knows smashing that cars windows was the only option, firefighters can never ever be dicks, and I remain a troll as claimed earlier.

Yes because in every one of these pictures a supply line was over or under a car. Not. The only thing I do notice in your pictute is that the engine / operator was able to nose in front of the hydrant as it is supposed to. Try again google expert.

If you don't like people who are trained in these tactics to reply and call out your googled attempt at a claim....well....simply withhold your assertions.

Speaking of Googling, I've spent a good hour with various search terms, and scrolling through 30+ pages of results for each search term, only to find that smashing of car windows to feed a hose through a car is a solely US thing.

I've not found a single similar story for anywhere outside of the US.
I guess you have a unique hose/hydrant system compared to the rest of the world.

True.
"Annoying little troll" made me chuckle though, and the member who called me it declined to enter into any further discussion, that was disappointing. I don't do schoolyard type drive by posting like that myself although I do find it amusing.

I must say though, I'm genuinely amazed that the nation with the biggest economy in the world is the only one which is unable to negotiate obstructions by their fire hydrants, such as parked cars, without smashing their windows.
Honestly, I'm amazed.
Can anyone find a single instance of this anywhere else in the world?
I spent a good hour searching and it seems to be a curiously US thing alone.

I wonder why that is?
