PTWC says no tsunami threat to Hawaii... But if that magnitude holds, that almost for sure will carry with it at least a small tsunami...

It's looking to be at a depth of 696km for the quake. No idea how deep the ocean is there, but the quake is most definitely deep below the ocean floor.

Far out another massive quake.....is it just my imagination or are there an above average amount of large quakes in the recent past ?

Hmm that depth is out of character I think for that distance from the subduction zone line. We need to let them get more data on this one... But yeah, that deep, there may be no or little tsunami.

And the other side of the plate responded: 4.7 hit northern California...

Right at the edge of Cascadia too, which is a bit worrisome.

Part of the problem there at that spot where this hit is there are no seismo stations in the immediate area. So they are going to chew on this one a while... and the data will be from a great distance away.
Hmm, they upped that Cali quake to a 5.5?

A bunch of 4.0+ just popped in California also. I was monitoring RSOE EDIS global map just 30 minutes ago and neither the Japan quake nor the Cali, quakes were there then. Strange timing.

NoCal quake upgraded to 5.5.

it might get a mention on the news, unless it causes deaths, then it will get 30 seconds.

Ha, what timing, with the San Andreas movie just coming out... Pfft.

Although technically that 5.5 is closer to the Maccama fault zone... But still... Eyes and ears open folks... This might not be a good day...

Someone check the tsunami buoys please.... 7.8 is still massive...

Yes have noticed the poor timing on release of the data. I've been checking for activity every 30 minutes for last few weeks due to unusual heightened activity. However I shocked to find them being reported on here before they come up on the seismology data site. I thought this would all be automated when release to servers.

I'm 70 miles inland from S.F, and wasn't awakened, a local news mention, but so far that's it.

USGS is not reporting anything in Cali.
Yesterday there was also a report of a 5 in Cali that never happened either.

Keep an eye on the USGS map,
I think it is more reliable than RSOE EDIS at least when it comes to the US side.

The NoCal quake is in a very rural area. I would be surprised if anyone felt it.

Darkblade posted just second before i did so I missed that. I am looking on RSOE
