That's a terrible essay. I mean that as in, it's just written very poorly.

As far as the meaning, I get where he was going but then he just trails off on what seems like a disenfranchised man's personal rant about a really bad break-up. He was 30 when he wrote this and it looks like it was for an "edgy" publication purpose and I imagine those first few lines were just to grab some attention and appeal to youthful angst against authority when "shock value" was still pretty effective.

The point about the rape fantasies is how it's something people haven't shrugged all these years as can be seen by the types of news that sell. I've personally heard both men and women admit to these sorts of fantasies. I think it's just hyper-submissive fantasy for the sake of submissiveness and not about actual "rape".

Either way... this is an intentionally provocative piece written by a young man almost 45 years ago. Scientists have written papers talking about rape fantasies as well but they get accolades for their work.

If a crappy article he wrote is the most sensational dirt they have on him, they're pretty desperate. It's obvious the essay isn't about him having rape fantasies nor condoning it; he's making a social commentary on the phenomenon.

So far this election, I'm still saying Sanders 2016 all the way.

she was raised in a VERY Catholic, Conservative flyover state household.

What Bernie wrote there was nothing short of honesty about sexual mores that can be debated now. Where his time was skin mags that showed "how IT was supposed to be", we can choose more than 31 flavors on the internet, for free...

Some of us are old enough to remember the McGovern landslide, the last real genuine left winger the dems picked to run against old tricky Dick Nixon.

Nixon trounced the left winger in probably the biggest landslide in US presidential election history, and remember Nixon was in the throes of Watergate and the Vietnam War.

Its either that one or another time the dems ran a super liberal, Walter Mondale ( who said he'd raise taxes!) and Reagan trounced him.

It's a certain style of writing that grabs the attention of the reader, but I did find the story lacking. But I get his point. It's something to think about. Some men and women DO have rape fantasies.
