What patriots we used to be.

Back home, one of the two stations you could get played the national anthem, the other played this song that was a combination of Dixie and some other stuff. Wonder if that's on youtube...yep!

This must have been a stock music clip. The video on ours was different, all local Appalachian stuff.

Also, legend has it that during one election, they had the two local guys doing long video taped spots just before the station signed off. The first one shortened his a bit, played the national anthem, and had a color bar. Everyone cut their sets off before the second guy's spot started.

Left for highbeams, right for the starter switch.

We used to have a really old pickup with a starter on the floor, three on the tree. I learned to drive with that in the pasture.

There is just something special in seeing and using a simple crystal radio set for the first time. No power or batteries so it seems to really drive home the fact that the waves are out there all the time if you are only listening.......

Ha! I was close.

Now newer cars are easier with a simple push button start..as long as the fob is in range...and the handbrake is on...and it's in park...and your foots on the break...

Yeah..so much easier!

I remember having a camera (used film, think it was Kodak) that you had to buy little flash cubes for - you slotted it into the top and it revolved every time you took a picture, you got 4 flashes per cube.

Also remember thinking we were the bees knees when me and my sister got a portable tv each for our bedrooms - black and white and with a kind of loop aerial on top - every time you moved you lost the picture.

Also remember when my sister got a "Simon says" game for Christmas. simon says

loL the bad old good old days

On the topic of telephones

How about these oldies that the youngins wouldn't know or understand.......

well at my house, or vehicles you stand a very good chance of hearing those very same tunes playing on a radio, thats right i said radio and maybe even some vinyl. no bubble gum rock, boy bands, phony voice girls, hip hop, rap, techno or any of that bs they call music today. nothing but rock, rhythm and blues, and jazz playing at my house.

old bob said it best.

and here is a fun one.

My dad had one of these.

Does anyone remember the smell of the photos after you stripped the chemical laced cover off of them?

Just popped back into the tread again.

Remember these? The days you never had to get your hands dirty at The Petrol Pump.

We still have a few servos that still offer driveway service.

And at the same time, one has recently introduced PayPass at the bowser, so you don't even have to go inside to pay any more.

Here in the UK we have Pay At The Pump, similar to what you have i believe. You just put your debit or credit card in the pump, pay and then drive off.

As for Petrol Pump Attendant's i have not seen one in The U.K for over 30 years. You have to blow up your tyres and clean the windscreen yourself, as well as putting the petrol into the car yourself also.

How about this.

ha! I still have an original Sony Walkman!

If you had told anyone 30 years ago that Sony would no longer be anywhere in relation to portable music, people would have laughed you out the building.

Same can be said for Nokia phones as well..

Random Fact -; Sony were wondering what to call their portable music tape deck years ago, and one of the sony execs said " I want to listen to something while I walk man!" and the name kinda stuck!

Remember pausing a movie, and seeing the image all shaky?

And probably pausing it 'cause it was boobs in some horror film and that vibrating boob was the best chance to catch one since porn wasn't available everywhere.
