Here is another movie that I like. I wasn't going to post this one but then I noticed something in the movie that got me thinking.
At one point in the movie Arnold Schwarzenegger's and Vanessa Williams's characters are being shot at. Then, around 32 minutes in the movie Lee (played by Vanessa Williams) says that the gun was a prototype that isn't supposed to exist, and that it's a rail gun. Arnold's character then says that the Navy has been working on it for years but the smallest one that he knows of is mounted on a battle ship.
That made me think of an article I read last year, about the Navy working on a ship mounted rail gun. Here's the article. Were they working on a rail gun back then (1996), or is this just coincidence? At any rate, I thought that it was odd.

Eraser is about a witness protection specialist who becomes suspicious of his co workers while working on a case.

More on the movie: Eraser

Here is the movie:

I suspect that Rail gun and magneto launch technology has been developed at multiple underground facilitys with small surface aperture's, this may be another use for some but not all of the DUMB's out there.
The beauty is that Spy satellite's detect thermal imprint of rocket launches but these are virtually cold and with added stealth technology to shield this launch system both satellites and weapon's can be deployed undetected to orbit.

As for a possible weapon use, yes the US navy had one mounted on (inside the whole ship had to be gutted and structurally altered inside to accomodate it) a ship (A destroyer if I remember) (they also have viable lasers in development, lasers as well as being a weapon can interfere with a missiles guidance, especially optical guidance) and was developing it as far back as the 70's if I recall what I read correctly though it was likely just on the drawing board.

The ship based one fires a almumium slug at a few hundred thousand mile's per hour and this means it explodes like a meteor were it hit's, it is still not what we would call relativistic speed's but is a hell of a lot faster than a bullet or missile and if coupled with a missile system or a self guiding projectile for long range strike's it would be very useful in certain circumstances but would require reconnaissance to spot for it like a giant sniper rifle.

Subterranean version that just break the surface at classified location's can be used as weapon's as well for anti satellite deployment as well as cold dark launch systems for ground to orbital deployement but for the weapon use they would need to produce more acceleration and create a greater projectile velocity.

Remember the shuttle image of a possible ufo or or maybe it was just a ice particle heated by the sun, the one that seemed to avoid something streaking out of the atmosphere at it, that is what a medium velocity rail gun weapon would look like.

Could they be defence installation's and a offshoot of the star wars program with reagans speech of a threat outside this world born in mind.

Thanks. I had no idea that research into them went back so far. I saw in the article that the atmosphere around it can burn due to friction from the speed of the projectile. I guess that it's the speed that causes that to happen. At any rate, I wouldn't want to be shot with one.

it was sweet when he knocked over the fridge and opened the door over them and all the rounds from the rail gun went into his hand.
good flick

Hey friend, i remember you liking "Duel" Have you seen J.J. Abrams "Joy Ride"? I recently read that he was in fact inspired by "Duel" for this movie.

Joy Ride

In his screenplay for Joy Ride, J. J. Abrams was influenced by the first film directed by Steven Spielberg, Duel, and there are numerous references to it. For example, in one scene, a seemingly maniacal ICE truck pulls up to a gas station that the brothers have pulled up to. In Duel, a likewise maniacal truck pulls up the protagonist, and a small billboard for ICE is visible in the background. The central antagonist, "Rusty Nail", remains almost entirely unseen throughout the film and was portrayed by hulking actor Matthew Kimbrough in the brief shot of the villain towards the end of the film. Rusty Nail's voice heard on the radio throughout most of the film was provided by veteran actor Ted Levine due to his distinctive voice tone, and was added in post production. Eric Stoltz and Sylvester Stallone also auditioned for the role of Rusty Nail.[1] Rusty Nail's truck is a 359 Peterbilt.

And to get back on topic. Could the use of a colossal rail-gun type system launch satellites or "cargo" into space at a alarming pace to build a giant space station or ship if need be? What I mean could a rail-gun produce escape velocity? If so then this is a game changer for sure.

I can't recall the exact year, but Dr. Harold Puthoff, formerly of working to prove Remote Viewing, came to work at the University of Texas in Austin during the 1990s. He was coming to Austin work on a prototype of the Navy's railgun. The story was carried in the Austin American-Statesman I believe he later went to work for a private corporation in Austin or perhaps it was something he started himself, but the name escapes me. Also, he happened to write a decent book on how UFOs are powered. It appeared about the time that talk of "zero-point energy" was the big thing.

Yeah, the fridge scene looked painful. Nothing like having what amounts to a drill bit going through your hand.

I haven't seen Joy Ride yet but I've been told it's a lot like Duel. I'll have to watch that.
Launching cargo with a rail gun is a neat idea. I watched a movie a while back that used something like one for transferring cargo. It didn't launch the cargo at high velocity though.

I had to look him up lol. Here's what I found: H E Puthoff
It looks like he's accomplished a lot of things.

Hey great movies you been posting, I do love total recall , and also 12 monkeys as someone mentioned and the fifth element is one of my favorite movies of all time, the set design was amazing. But have you seen a movie from the seventies? Called Wizards, its an animation sci-fi fantasy cross and another called fire and ice.. wizards is on YouTube not sure about fire and ice. I watched wizards in my early teens many times with my best mate and we are planning on a night soon to watch it again.
