Interesting discussion. Since I'm fluent in French, I find that in that language there is a bit of a different connotation.

My pet peeve is the use of 'irregardless', which is not a word at all. Regardless says enough.

Agreed and just for info in French regardless is translated néanmoins.

Been here 27 years now and married to a French lady.

Anyways... enough about me... Irregardless will probably end up one day in one of our dictionaries!

Doesn't answer the question, does it?

Never mind. Hop away in peace.

I answered the question... But probably not to your expectations methinks.

I (I will add... we)... should remain positive...

I am not going to get into a conflict with you and no I will not hop away thank you very much!

Many of us here are writers...

Here's the plot twist: everyone writing on the ATS forum is a writer.

Here's the plot twist: everyone writing on the ATS forum is a writer.

Reminds me of Paul McCartney's definition: 'a singer is a man who sings every day.' When you have one of the world's most famous voices you can afford to be generous.

I make my living as a writer. Have done for over thirty years.

Do you see what it says under 'Mind Firmly Closed' in my avatar?

Here's one that aggravates me: exponential. People have no idea how to use the word.

It is clear in the derivative of the word itself that it has an "exponent". Yes?

For example, " Reported crime rates rise exponentially with rises in temperature".

You don't just say "Crime rises exponentially".

Exponential to WHAT? There should be an exponent.

Astyanax is a real writer, by the way. A real one. Just sayin'. Anyone who reads his posts can see that.
