Saudi advertises for swordsmen as execution rate soars
news.yahoo.com...

Riyadh (AFP) - Saudi Arabia advertised vacancies for eight executioners Tuesday after beheading nearly as many people since the start of the year as it did in the whole of 2014.

---snip---

The vacancies were advertised on the ministry's website in the "religious jobs" section.

Last year, Saudi Arabia executed 87 people, according to an AFP tally, ranking it third in the world for use of the death penalty.

Already this year, it has put 84 people to death in what human rights group Amnesty International has described as a "macrabre spike."

I thinking they spelled "macabre" wrong...
and it is more of a "macabe hockey stick."
www.rawstory.com...

The Quran references the beheading of unbelievers at times of war, as follows:

"Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers [in fight], smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly [on them]: thereafter [is the time for] either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus [are ye commanded]: but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them [Himself]; but [He lets you fight] in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost." - Quran 47:4

Beheading is a legal form of execution in Iran, Qatar and Yemen, but the punishment has been suspended in those countries. The majority of executions carried out by the Wahhabi government of Saudi Arabia are public beheadings, which usually cause mass gatherings but are not allowed to be photographed or filmed. Since 2002, however, jihadist groups such as al-Qaeda and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant have been mass circulating beheading videos as a form of terror and propaganda

Ive heard of people who feel called to the ministry, but called to be an executioner? That would be a horrible religious calling.

Who staged that 'advertisement'?

Thats not how people are picked to carry out "executions". Imagine the Mafioso placing ads for hit men. Or the CIA for Assassins?

Lets keep it real.

Capital punishment is revolting. Luckily I live in a country that banned such barbaric practices.

Saudi Arabia publically beheads people, which is nice and medieval.

Under Saudi's interpretation of Shariah law people can (and are) beheaded for adultery, drug dealing, fornication, apostacy, blasphemy, homosexuality etc... Most are foreigners who have little defence.

here is one story from the OP article:

In January, gruesome footage was posted of a Burmese woman protesting her innocence before being beheaded by a swordsman on a public street in the Muslim holy city of Mecca.

Ignoring her screams, the white-robed executioner forces her to lie down on the ground, near a pedestrian crossing, then severs her head with a curved sword.

The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said that Layla bint Abdul Mutaleb Bassim had been sentenced to death for killing her husband's six-year-old daughter.

"severs her head with a curved sword"

Here is my resume:
Have curved sword, will travel

We have the Death Penalty here in the USA and people are hired to carry it out. In Utah, they're bringing back the Firing Squad and asking for volunteers to "pull the trigger" from local police, who were affected or involved in the case.

This fascinates me because for things such as rape a host of witness are required. So have all those who get topped been seen by a host of witnesses?

Strikes me that these killings are done merely to keep the ordinary bods in line with the royals demands through their use of their religion. Fear is soo nice and safe!

It is good to be skeptical, but this IS a different culture.
Having a job that requires a curved sword is no hoax.

Being in denial about that isn't healthy, it can lead to
a psychotic break that might land a person in hospital.

I just read a story today where a French Mayor was
committed to a mental institution against his will
after he posted ‘Islamophobic’ comments on Twitter.
gatesofvienna.net...

According to Robert Chardon, “anyone that practises Islam must be immediately returned to the border”. He is asking for an amendment to the Constitution to achieve his goal: “I am asking to abolish the legislation of 1905 and to proclaim the Republic favors Christian values.”

He wants to be a candidate for the regional and presidential elections.

We in the civilized world don't use fear to control
our population. ...er.... scratch that.

I read that. Seem a bit odd at the time.

Of course, we could just hand out rope and allow
the condemned to hang them selves... but where
would the fun be in that?

American like to shoot guns as must as the
Arab likes to "smite the neck" with a sword.

To each his own.

You'd think so, but hey, it was listed as a "religious job"
so that might explain the cultural difference in some way.

Remember that Army National Guard Job Advertisement:-
Job Title As "Internment/Resettlement Specialist"
That was a little odd too.

"... you will ensure the smooth running of military confinement/correctional facility or detention/internment facility, similar to those duties conducted by civilian Corrections Officers. This will require you to know proper procedures and military law; and have the ability to think quickly in high-stress situations. Specific duties may include assisting with supervision and management operations; providing facility security; providing custody, control, supervision, and escort; and counseling individual prisoners in rehabilitative programs."

Positions open, act quickly. No curved sword requited.

We haven't sunk so low as to execute people in the street just yet for things like adultery etc, although we did use to halve, draw and quarter em in the past for treason which I think some should remember when fighting for isis abroad - but we are civilised now ha ha!

Wasn't most of the New Testament written by a serial killer?

As I recall, Saul used stones, or rather he watched as his
followers used stone (to kill believers in the false Messiah).

The responders to the supposed ad are netted, in any number of ways, depending on particulars.
Some group is phishing. Yeah: Hey everyone, I wanna be a spook for the CIA.
