Thankfully you're in Australia and whilst you have a few issues (nothing that cannot be sorted), Oz does not have by far the issues across the pond!

Personally, I agree with you that we should all become a lot more self sufficient, but folk are comfortable with their lot and don't want to rock the boat. That being said, I truly believe that Commercialism and Materialism will be a thing of the past in our lifetimes. I just hope that our kids don't make the same mistakes we did.

"Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes it's laws" — Mayer Amschel Bauer Rothschild

This is the main issue with the World society today, allowing a group of bankers to dictate to our sovereign nations. We should all be up in arms when you realise that less than 1% of the Worlds population dictates to our democratic elected governments, both in the US, Europe and Oz not to mention any other country with a "Central Bank".

I really hope if there is an uprising (which i honestly belief will happen within the decade) once the banking industry implodes in on itself, that the bankers and the elite who have for to long had a detrimental effect on our civilisation will be held accountable. Their money will be worth #e and their homes will be targeted. There will be no where for these people to hide. We need to rid our civilisation of this cancer called the Banking Industry!

It's not a get out of jail card, it's a don't die in jail in the hand of the those running the place card. Every one gets one of those cards.

Hey man, I'm a vet I was in the sandbox. I lost friends there the only point we can agree on is that this is bull#. If I had been anywhere near this occurance it wouldn't have happend us vets even vets outside of this country but western, look out for each other respect and love each other! # these piece of # cops, and screw what your talking about,if you think I'm some kind of hard core arm chair warrior. I've put my money where my mouth is, quite frankly right now there is very little we can do, more of us must join the resistance in order for real change to take place, for that to happen people have to be uncomfortable and quite frankly people aren't, Americans have all the newest latest and greatest and it keeps us preoccupied.

if you think the American spirit is dead your wrong, there's still quite a bit of US red blooded americans. In the event push comes to shove we will join together and when we do the world shakes every time.

And there lays the problem in a nutshell!

I am not dissing the Americans one iota, but observing this from the outside knowing that if the same had happened in my country, there would be an uproar! however in the states, we keep getting stories every other day about police brutality and deaths in custody and yet nothing is happening,, nothing changes and as such these perpetrators are getting away with it.

As i said at the start of the thread, this would not be acceptable in the UK, people would take to the streets in protest until such time the offenders were held to account and charged! But in the US, these guys are put on paid leave until the heat dies down and then return to their duties. Seems to me that the Police "Force" in the US should return to being a Police "Service" and if any LEO breaks the law in any way then they should have the book thrown at them as they should be held in higher regard the the average Joe!

From the outside looking in, I would say that the Police Force in the US is just one big "Street Gang".

I don't defend cops and frankly I don't like them! To encounter them disgusts me not everyone of them but most, when I got out of the army and would be pulled over they let me go every time acting like I was there comrad or something, but I'm not I could never police And abuse my own people that # is for arm chair warriors. I just feel your concern for our dead veteran is disingenuous And only made so you can point out American system flaws, it's a repetitive routine from a lot of you across the pond even though you all are our brothers and sisters you've lost faith in us, and all respect. We will carry on I promise you that we forged our way through many hardships we've redefined freedom our social movements have shaken the world and as we progress so does the world. One things for sure the only thing that stays the same is everything changes. With that a song from a country boy.

I can assure you that I am not being disingenuous at all. I'm worried that what happens in the states the UK follows suit within a decade. What's happening with your police force in the states could quite easily happen here in Europe, but the difference is we would not tolerate it. Back to the chap in the OP, i am appalled that someone that served their country and put their life on the line to protect your country was treated in such an appalling manner. Nothing disingenuous about that, just shock and disgust!

And only made so you can point out American system flaws, it's a repetitive routine from a lot of you across the pond

What's repetitive is the constant media telling the World that yet another US Citizen has been murdered by a police officer and has been put on "Leave". What's repetitive is the fact that no one in the US from your citizenship to your politicians seems to be taking this matter, seriously. There is an election looming in the US but instead of making this Police Brutality a main subject of the election, you are all to busy worried about Gay folk getting married.

America is meant to be the land of the free, America is meant to be the World leader, however America is looking more like the Middle East every day in the way your police force has been allowed to degenerate into a street gang. Your country was looked upon as something to aspire to, now however the opposite is true. I remember as a child I always told my parents that I would live in the US, this changed when I visited your country for a few months a decade ago and realised that your Freedom and our freedom across the pond are two different things!

I am proud of our two countries history of working together through thick and thin. I'm proud that we have each others backs, but that being said does not deviate from the fact that the US has some major issues that need resolving and back to the topic in hand, Id say your police force is out of control and needs a massive overhaul pronto!

This is revolting and nothing will change in the US as you guys are great "Armchair Warriors" and that's where it ends.

As I've said many times before, if that had happened in the UK, there would have been riots in the cities across the UK until those officers were arrested and charged with Murder.

And here in the UK we don't have guns like our US cousins, but our police force have a lot more respect for us citizens than our US counterparts.

Divide and conquer, that is what is happening in the US now and it's worked. To busy fighting each other than realising the bigger picture!

Lol you guys can't even rid yourselves of Pedo Politicians and Royals, you should probably butt out of US Police Brutality.

This sadly isn't anything new.

This happens far more frequently than is reported by the media. Many times these types of incidents happen to people who's families cannot afford to take legal action.

Even if legal action is taken, most of these incidents settle out of court, with clauses to not discuss the settlement or case.

The infuriating thing is, these "wrongful death" settlements and lawsuits cost the taxpayer. Stop voting for sheriffs that allow this type of behavior in your jails people!

Just like with the police, the correctional officers have a "code of silence" to protect their own. These guys know where all the camera's are -- so we're not even privy to the really bad stuff. The worst is when they abuse elderly people or people with disabilities. Deaf people have a rough time in jail...the CO's often think that the deaf people are being belligerent and not listening, so extra beatings for them!

Remember, in a lot of these cases these are PRE-TRIAL facilities. These people haven't been convicted of any crime or sentenced in any way. These people have simply been arrested and charged of a crime.

FWIW I vote for emulating the French and perhaps a bit of 'the Peasants' revolt thrown in.
