12/21/12 the Mayan calendar. Nibiru. How many bought in to that? How many suicides? How many spent sleepless nights in worry. Only to waken on the 22nd with a lot of Christmas shopping to get done because Christmas was still gonna happen after all.

Sitchin never made that claim.

IF ET exists and IF he is making regular trips to this planet in the flesh, than he either wants to meet some Earth girls for sex,

"Aww great, man. First Earth chick in twenty years and the robot's gotta make a play for her!"(Heavy Metal)

He certainly supported the premise . End of days and nibiru were all part of his convictions.

Actually there are some logic barriers in place. First of all; If a species has the technology to reach Earth then they won't need slaves. Machines or any other type of replacement technology is far better then the support of humans as slaves. This whole 'slavetopic' is basically the backlash from the slave era that humanity itself created.

However; that doesn't mean that aliens 'out there' are friendly. Nature and motives are important and political views can influance those aliens as well.

We will rule out alien species unfit to reach us and alien species that have evolved beyond the scope our mind can handle. That leaves us with species that exist in our special realm for the main part and can be destinguished as intelligent life by humans.

A few factors might make aliens hostile towards our species:
1) Social Perseption
2) Political Viewpoints
3) Survival Instincts

the first two are often intertwined and related. Think of species that can or won't accept species other then themselves. Such a view of racism can cause a species to respond hostile to humanity. But it can be political only as well; for instance and alliens of species command one species to clean out a sector of space for military or political reasons.
the third could be a species that is running away from another threat or is in serious lack of supplies.

Prevention of hostile potential hostile situations should not be to keep ourselves excluded from contact. Histroy has tought us that such a tactic doesn't work when you are discovered. The Chinese did not escape war by building the Chinese wall, they just got tougher and smarter enemies that almost always came out on top. Communication should be explainatory and open. The stick behind the door should be survaillance of our space as good as our technology allows us. The development of protocols to ensure safe approach and contact with possible aliens and a way to estimate the potential of hostile situations in early stages of contact.

There will always be causes where humanity has drawn the shortest straw simply be being behind on technological scale. In such a case we should not expect Hollywood style invasion; but rather extermination in quick, speedy matters in which we won't even have a chance to react or escape.

It's the Samaritan complex-some believe that no matter how badly we screw up there will always be someone or something to bail us out whether it be god or aliens.

Kind of reminds you of children doesn't it.

Sitchin never claimed the world was going to end on December 12th, 2012, or that planet X was going to appear, or anything at all associated with apocolyptic events of any kind happening in or around the year 2012. The ancient texts that he translated did, according to his translation, contain a mythology of gene-splicing gold-mining aliens that came from a planet called Nibiru, which was reportedly a member of our solar system with a wide eliptical orbit of 3,600 years. Sitchin was very clear in stating that he did not attach any special significance to the year 2012, at least not as it related to his theories regarding the planet Nibiru.

In actuality, the Nibiru stuff is only a small portion of his work. He should have saved that book for last: then more people might appreciate his true calling, which was to point out many of the glaring enigmas in our mythological, historical, and archaeological records.

The Mayan calender ended on that date, so I think a lot of people took that date as an excuse to decide that they thought Planet X was going to show up out of nowhere at that time. Sitchin, however, was not one of those people.

Personally I realized that when speaking of such long lengths of time it would be foolish to expect ANYTHING to happen on a particular day unless it was something foreseeable as being precise and we had 100% understanding of what we had the writing, the calendar and yet we had little of the writing left to study. So there is the question of our perfect understanding of the calendar and what may be expected NEAR that time.

Personally I have not dismissed the calendar as having no meaning whether it is 5 years off or 10 that would be a speck in the overall time.
