No appeal..they are taking their medicine...despite his somewhat checkered history in this area I would love for PK to play for the Bruins!!!!!!

Confusing as this is an NFL thread. PK? Is that Place Kicker? Bruins? UCLA?

I thought it should have been 16 games! What do you all think?

Star for that. Suspension for an entire season. They should have taken the Superbowl trophy away from them.

I think four games and a first round pick is sufficient. A lot of people are saying "It wouldn't effect the outcome of the game anyway." Well, Blount had a killer game rushing the ball. Fumbling occurs most often on cold days, especially when you add snow. A deflated ball is obviously easier to hand off and maintain a solid grip. And I'm not trying to take anything away from Blount, but it's more of a "what if..." situation. A fumble or a bobbled hand off could've swayed the momentum early in the game, and the lack of confidence in rushing the ball could've crept in.

Perhaps the severity of the punishment is based on the general intentions as much as the act itself. I'm not a pats fan or against them, but the suspensions and loss of draft picks was necessary to deter others in the future.

OK, I could see taking away the trophy if they had proof that the cheating was throughout the entire team or caused directly another team in the playoffs to lose.

But,

The deflated balls did not cause the Colts to lose, and the deflated balls had no impact on the defense or even most of the offensive sides of the ball. Is there any evidence they knew or conspired? If not, do they deserve to be punished? They played honestly as far as anyone knows.

The Patriots Org. has been punished with a fine and loss of draft picks. Now we can argue that those penalties aren't stiff enough for the failure to maintain control over Brady and the equipment crew.

And we can argue whether or not Brady was punished enough. At this point in his career, this may or may not be career ending. Four game with an inexperienced QB is almost certainly going to ruin their repeat hopes. Who do they have to take control from Brady under center and they face the Steelers, Bills and Jags in those weeks ... maybe the Cowboys if they don't count the bye as a suspension game. That's two likely losses in the Steelers and Cowboys with another good possibility in the Bills.

They took out Sean Payton for a year over rumors of bounties. But Brady is caught red handed and it is four games? Justice isn't as blind as they say.

"We have concluded that it is more probable than not that Jim McNally (the Officials Locker Room attendant for the Patriots) and John Jastremski (an equipment assistant for the Patriots) participated in a deliberate effort to release air from Patriots game balls after the balls were examined by the referee.

"Based on the evidence, it also is our view that it is more probable than not that Tom Brady (the quarterback for the Patriots) was at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities of McNally and Jastremski involving the release of air from Patriots game balls," the report reads.

Ok as an Australian who enjoys watching the playoff games i have only one question . What part of more probable than not aren't i getting . So he gets thrown out for 4 games because someone " thinks " he may have known . I really dont get that .

It was more that he didn't cooperate with the investigation.
Sure he doesn't have to, but this isn't the court of law where you can plead the fifth.

And the more probable then not is we are pretty sure he knew about it/told them to do it.
We just don't have the smoking gun.
Which of course wouldn't fly in the courts, but this isn't the courts

But how long before it is in the courts . If OJ walked this wont even get to court .

Why would it get to the courts? This is a nfl matter not a legal one.

They have an appeal process and I am sure Brady will benefit from it.

I cannot believe the Colts have not sued them for cheating.
They can definately show damages.

I'm from Indianapolis and a huge Colts fan. I don't agree with an entire season suspension, but I feel they got what they deserve. I mean they did cheat in the AFC Championship game and who knows how long this has been going on. Deflating the balls didn't win the game for them IMO and the Patriots were obviously the better team in the AFC championship, but it really does question the integrity of the NFL and more importantly the Patriots. They are known for bending the rules and have been caught cheating twice now, which I believe says a lot about the team in general. Come on Patriots...Your better than that!

12/1/14 the Minnesota Vikings (team I root for) get caught altering the football. They do this by keeping the balls warm next to heaters on the sidelines on a very cold and frigid day at TCF Stadium in MN. After this game the NFL sends a memo to all 32 teams reiterating the rules of tampering with the football.

The NE Patriots received the memo and decided against it. I think the suspension is fair. I don't agree with taking draft picks away however.

4 is too much since there is literally zero evidence Tom Brady did anything wrong, and in fact the text messages show the league itself was in violation of it's own rules which is why the balls were being altered by the Patriots at all.

Jastremski: Talked to him last night. He actually brought you up and said you must have a lot of stress trying to get them done… Jastremski: I told him it was. He was right though… Jastremski: I checked some of the balls this morn… The refs (expletive) us…a few of then were at almost 16
Jastremski: They didnt recheck then after they put air in them
Jastremski: Ugh…Tom was right. Jastremski: I just measured some of the balls. They supposed to be 13 lbs… They were like 16. Felt like bricks

So if Brady wanted the balls at 13psi, what did he do wrong? Why were the officials altering the balls to 16psi in direct violation of their own rules?

The text messages being used against the Patriots are from BEFORE December. So if the Patriots are being penalized for things that happened in October, why shouldn't the Vikings? All the evidence against the Patriots was from October 2014 and earlier.

The issue with these texts is they’re from May and October — months away from the January AFC Championship Game. Those texts would look a lot more damning if they came in the weeks prior to the Patriots’ matchup against the Colts.

Exactly. And the text messages used to condemn him only talk about the balls should be 13PSI, within the range of the rules. They discovered league officials were overinflating their balls to 16PSI, which against the rules and was hurting the Patriots. There is actually zero evidence the balls were underinflated for the Colts game.

Yeah but see that bothers me a bit. It didn't alter the outcome. So if I go to a casino, count cards but get super unlucky am I innocent? I know that isn't what you are trying to say but a cheat is a cheat

If a cheater is caught even if said cheating doesn't help, is it somehow ok? Because I see the slippery slope of precedence saying "I videotaped the sideline calls, under-inflated, corked my bat, etc...but I still lost...so that's ok"

I loathe the Patriots...easily my least favorite team. Not because they win but because Bill cheated, it sounds like Tom did, and Tom's attitude is so ugly when he lost to the Giants (the first time)...BUT I am also not going to go so far and say that we should suspend for a season or remove the SB trophy and then some

He had it coming...got it...now he can grow up and move on

Oh and as far as Spygate BS goes...I know Bill is all about saying "we didn't use it that game..." and people are ok with that. Sooo he "says" he didn't do it and we just accepted it?

Meh...who cares anyway...the Ducks are in semifinals...

Go ducks!

Just saw this, as they are now in the conference finals.

Ya cheating is cheating, I just brought up ther it most likely didn't change the game in response to those calling for season long bans ans rings taken away.

I loath the pats as well but fair is fair at the end of the day.

Except they weren't. The text messages were from MONTHS before the Colts game. 3 of the 4 Colts balls were also underinflated. They were underinflated due to the cold weather. The text messaged from MAY that you think prove they cheated 7 months later in JANUARY actually say the league was cheating, inflating the balls to 16PSI after Brady signed off on them, and they are supposed to be 13psi. Never once does any text message talk about deflating balls LOWER than 12.5, not once. The only PSI mentioned is 13psi, within regulation.

Several teams were caught cheating. Vikings and Panthers were caught. No punishment. Aaron Rodgers admits he does it every game. No punishment. Patriots text messages show the league was cheating, and they were putting the balls back to 13psi and the Pats need to be punished? Can you explain the logic? What punishment do you think Aaron Rogers, the Panthers and the Vikings deserve?

Bill did not cheat, and there is no indication Brady did either. In fact the text messages show Brady was pissed the league was cheating and wanted the balls back to 13psi .. which is where they should be.

He had it coming...got it...now he can grow up and move on

It's called evidence. What evidence do you have they did use it? The rules never stated he could not take the footage, only it could not be used during the game. So what evidence can you show he did?

It's funny how every team is caught ACTUALLY cheating and you don't care. Yet the team you loathe for cheating has never actually been caught cheating, only insinuation. Are you sure it's not because they win? Because if you loathe cheaters where is your hatred of the teams caught doing far worse and it being proven? Do you realize the Bucs cheated to win an actual superbowl and admitted it? Where's the condemnation there?

Bill didn't cheat? He got caught video taping...and just because he said "I didn't use them in game" we just say ok and move on?

Far as other teams well they need to be dealt with as well...On the other hand it is just football...now Hockey...that's the stuff
