183 countries have paid maternity leave. The U.S. does not. The reason why is because it would hurt business, which is why those other 183 countries have 0 corporations.

After all, how can a company give a mother 6 weeks paid leave when the CEO makes a years wage per day? Seriously, they just don't have the money!

Not to mention all the "maternity leave queens" that would get pregnant every year just to have a 6 week paid vacation. The only reason every woman isn't a dugger is because they can't afford to take the time off.

So U.S. mothers, you're the best, and we would do anything for you. Now, get back to work.

I am not sure if this is true. Can you please provide link(s)?

But if it is, I've worked for a lot of different companies in the U.S.

Some paid for maternity leave, some didn't.

Because, you know, "no other country has corporations"...

I think you're upset for legitimate, yet inaccurate reasons.

No other countries have corporations? Lol.

195 fully recognized countries in the world. The U.S. is one of the remaining 12 that don't have paid maternity leave and the only one that has corporations?

England has paid maternity leave. And corporations.

Fail. So much fail.

How can they have corporations if they have paid maternity leave?

Paid maternity leave will cost so much that it will drive corporations out of business. It will cost jobs!

What other reason could there be for the U.S. to not have paid maternity leave? Its to protect the fragile businesses! Why don't you think about the poor business and their multimillionaire ceos, instead of those greedy women producing life and taking time off from work, costing the poor company money.

As soon as paid maternity leave was put in place in those other countries, all their corporations either left or shut down because it was just too expensive to operate there anymore. They just couldn't make ends meet under such oppressive, socialistic conditions.

Ohhhhhh. You're trying to troll. I see it now.

Problem is, many companies in the U.S. have paid maternity leave. Because the law is written in such a way that it leaves benefits up to companies. And many of them realize that and offer their own leave policies. Several states have legislated it so that it includes paid time off.

Australia doesn't offer paid maternity leave either. Why don't you whine about them?

I didn't get maternity leave, but I was and am only part-time. Name me part-time workers who get benefits. My husband's company offers a full range of benefits, including maternity, to women. He did not get paternity leave and had to use his own vacation time which wasn't a big deal because the vacation time is overly generous where he works.

It really just depends on your job. Most places will offer it.

It is up to the individual states. Case in point, where I live, New Jersey, there is paid leave.

I'm curious, for how long is it in New Jersey ?

In Canada it's 12 months (anywhere in the country) and can be divided between mother and father if that's what the new parents chose (6 months for mom, 6 months for dad), or either parent doing the full 12 months.

The one year maternity/paternity leave is also applicable for adoptive parents.

It is either 6 or 8 weeks and then you can get an unpaid extension.
