Has anyone seen it? I've been reading up on it, and apperantly its a very controversial movie especially with the Church since it does'nt really depict Jesus as a goody two shoes kinda guy, but more of a human one with flaws.

I was wondering if anyone saw it and if it was really as good as they say it is.

I saw it when it came out in theatres...And first, I have to admit I'm not the wisest when it comes to knowing the Bible...

When you're watching the movie, it's clear that there is an inherent bias to the story being told....For those who are very religious, that may detract from their desire to even continue watching the movie...

But from a cinematic standpoint, it's a very very VERY moving film....The scene where Jesus is tortured by the Roman guards goes on for about 10 minutes and is almost impossible to watch without becoming emotional - even for non-believers such as myself....it's simply the agony and pain that was captured...

The cinematography is pretty incredible - Lots of dramatic close-up shots that show a bit more than you may want to see....There are frequent flashbacks here and there, but in truth, only a fraction of the story is told - but that's to be expected given the timeframe of a movie...

It's definitely a film worth seeing - As to whether you'll like it or not, is something very personal...IMO it was an incredible film...

I find it weird that so many people want to make such movies, really.
I didn't want to see The PAssion when it came out....was half forced to watch it....from the computer where I played more online than watched.

When was this one released?

Thanks Enron, I consider myself a somewhat devout Catholic for my age and I am intrested in seeing Jesus portrayed in a flawed way.

JLC- The movie came out in 1988 I believe.

1988

I read the book before I saw the movie. Personally I thought it was ok, but the Passion is far superior. I don't know anyone who didn't have tears in their eyes when they watched Gibson's movie.

The Last Temptation is a really good film, IMO. I thought Willem Dafoe was great as Christ.

Well I'll be renting it over the holiday season, I'll let you know what I thought of it.

Though its going to be a bit weird seeing Dafoe, one of my weirder favorite actors, in the buff.

I saw it over the weekend and I was amazed. I watched it in two sittings, but I was deeply moved by it. Willem Dafoe could've performed better but in some parts he did a great job such as when he returned to Nazareth and they all thought he was insane. The cinamatogrophy was beautiful and overall it was a very emotional film. I consider myself a devout yet open-minded Catholic and I enjoyed seeing Jesus in a new light.

Now I just need to get my closed-minded friends to see this, who thinks its a blasphemous porno, when it had very little sexual nudity.

It is blasphemy. Our Lord and Saviour Christ was free from all sins. Even human priest
o earth w are not God hiself take vows of celibacy and keep it fortheirvocation, andyet God who came in the flesh
to vocate his life for uswould do the opposate? Thats insanity.

I know I sound lke a close minded person, but thats the truth of the matter.

The passion was great though, although its a movie thas hard to see twice.

peace.
