Talking of cartoon animals, ever wondered what animals ren and stimpy were?

I only know for sure because i googled it. I realized after a conversation about old tv shows with a friend that i had never actually questioned what they were! They were always.... simply "ren" and "stimpy".

EDIT: Yeah berenike, i googled it to find out, but you were right Ren was a chihuahua and stimpy is a house cat. For a while i thought they were more random animals like perhaps a rat and a gopher or something, not house pets.
