NATIONAL SECURTY and UFOS: SHOULD THERE BE DECLASSIFICATION?
F. No PPFSWP01-03

National Security includes everything that is considered by Congress, the U.S. Government, and of coarse the Intelligence Community as being something that will harm the U.S., its peoples, or its allies in any deemed way. But, why is there still a "Curtain of Secrecy" over a topic that has been deemed by the U.S. Air Force and numerous areas of the U.S. Government... "UFOs do not harm the National Security..." and a topic that has been ended by the U.S. Government over 30 years ago.(?)

Known USAF/Government UFO Projects and Programs (Past)
- Project Sign
- Project Grudge
- Project Blue Book
- Project Paperclip (Possible)(FOIA)
- Project Moondust
- Project Silverbug (Possible)

In 1947, the U.S. Air Force established Project Sign, soon after Project Grudge, and the last official project and study, Project Blue Book. Other small and UFO related projects and studies took place such as Project Moondust which dealt with numerous UFO reports and events in differant countries and Project Silverbug which was hosted at Wright-Patterson AFB, same as Blue Book. This project is not defined as a UFO related project, but its purpose was to develope a supersonic, circular aircraft that looks much like a UFO. All of these projects have slowly been declassified, but much information still has not. According to many responses to Freedom of Information Act requests, many documents are not able to be released due to National Security.

In all understanding positions, National Security is needed on MANY things. One example would be the Manhattan project in which the U.S. developed the atomic bomb. This program was deemed TOP-SECRET. Without restrictions, we may have not been able to protect our country and we may have been under further attack. But some say, why National Security on UFOs? Well, in all fairness and reality, it is quite a troubling and confusing question with no straight forward answer.

Understanding information such as with Project Blue Book - this being the sighting case information - this possess a real privacy issue. But, all government records are usualy censored for privacy before they are released to the public. Also, as with the Project Moondust files, many international issues are dealt with such as the United Nationas UFO committee request and proposal. Understanding all this, the question going along with the above one also isn't answered; Why must it take over 40 years to delassify this information? This question also isn't easily answered. The famous conclusions of Project Blue Book again back the above up:

"No UFO reported, investigated and evaluated by the Air Force was ever an indication of threat to our national security;
There was no evidence submitted to or discovered by the Air Force that sightings categorized as "unidentified" represented technological developments or principles beyond the range of modern scientific knowledge;
There was no evidence indicating that sightings categorized as "unidentified" were extraterrestrial vehicles."

Many have protested as to the need for declassification since, as the above proves, the Unidentified Phenomenon is not a risk to National Security. But, we need to remember that under the Freedom of Information Act, the CIA file search, the CAUS case, the NSA file search, and numerous others, thousands of previously dubbed TOP-SECRET, CONFIDENTIAL, CLASSIFIED, SECRET, and numerous others in relation to UFOs have been released to the public at copy costs. Numerous studies have been met to address this issue, numerous researches done, one of the most famous being "Is the CIA Stonewalling," and many more.

The state our government is now identifying UFO related documents is much better than 30 years ago when everything was dubbed CLASSIFIED. But the fact still remains that UFOs are a touchy subject to step on since over 30 years of secrecy walk hand in hand. But we should start to see the topic loosen up more and more. Then again, since there are sighting cases attached to Project Moondust that are dated 1994, we may see an increased amount of secrecy to follow. Whether that proves the government is involved with UFOs after Blue Book or not, I don't think is the issue. The government has a right to be involved with the UFO phenomenon due to its mass apparentness in the U.S. and the world. The tables and fingers need to be turned and pointed to the classification system. The push for the 40 year table should be firm and it looks like the grasp on that issue is being understood.

The National Security state on UFOs is now starting to come into the picture for a good. The future holds a better understanding of the history of the United States and the world.

seems to be the lack of classification in general. Only the older info is classified, etc. Any recent info would be almost impossible to identify it as authentic, as it's buried in black projects, and will not follow correct nomenclature protocals... Before they got their crap together, got organized, and then formed the CIA, there is a ton of paper trail regarding aliens, etc. but after, the newer plan seemed to work pretty well....

I find it hard to believe the secret will be kept past my lifetime... Each year, more an more believe, because they are using the fruits of that reality every day.
