Today was the Microsoft Keynote for the opening of Build 2015.
www.buildwindows.com...

Besides talking about Microsoft services like Azure and the new Windows 10 OS. They also did some demos of Hololens.

www.microsoft.com...

Holographic computing is here.
When you change the way you see the world, you can change the world you see.

Microsoft HoloLens is the first fully untethered, see-through holographic computer. It enables high-definition holograms to come to life in your world, seamlessly integrating with your physical places, spaces, and things. We call this experience mixed reality. Holograms mixed with your real world will unlock all-new ways to create, communicate, work, and play.

In what had to be one of the most mind blowing demos I've seen in a long time. We see where the future of computers is really going. Microsoft Windows 10 will be the must have OS because of Hololens.

Wow, thank you for posting that. This is the kind of technology I wait for.

I say so what? All this stuff may be leading to a better world but for the time being it will, along with the really powerful stuff, be in the hands of the powerful. And that aint you or me brother. What tech they let dribble down to us is simple toys. Here, now you can change the colors on your screen. You can choose between a hundred different ring tones. You can change the back drop on your screen. You can pretend to do this and pretend to do that.
Then when you go to work, if there is work for you to do, the bosses will control this tech and further divide the work place between management and the everyday grunts. But at least when we come home we can put on our goggles and pretend the rest of the real world doesn't' exist any more.

Yeah I know. Grumpy.

The Hololens doesn't block your view, however, I know what you are getting at.

The potential is there for some serious misuse of this kind of technology, however, I will be old and probably dead by the time it is used to control the masses.

I've been waiting for VR for many many years, and I think it is awesome to see it come out, and I would of never of even thought of augmented reality, which to me seems so much better than VR. (many more useful uses)

Don't confuse VR and AR, they are two different things. If it was just vr, it would be nothing more than a glorified gaming system. AR has so many potential uses for it that it could actually lead to a much better way of living and working in a lot of fields. You don't ignore the world with AR, you change things to your preference, and I think if the room is dark, you can do VR with it too.

The fact is that the world is moving into a new phase of technology in the public, one that will take off, for better or for worse, and just like cell phones changed a lot of things, these devices will to, for better or for worse.

I find it exciting!

I can see this being used to control fighter planes one day asa back up to the actual pilot. A drone operator can fly it if the pilot is incapacitated

hololens has many applications.

www.microsoft.com...

JPL is already using the hololens to better view data from the mars rover.

As well as being used to teach anatomy as case western reserve university.

Autodesk and some other companies are on that page. And i'm sure more to come on board to develop.
The future looks hell of interesting.

I'm still blown away by the Oculus Rift (yes I own one, the DK2, yes it is awesome), this looks even better!

I've been running the preview of W10 for some time now, and it's shaping up nicely, this will be a huge boost for it I think.

the 2nd part of the NASA one was interesting!

Sounds like NASA can now put themselves on any surface they land a rover or probe on and just observe what is there in 3d any time they want to. (either recorded or in close to real time)
That is seriously mind blowing if you think about it.
granted you can't take a physical sample,
but you can observe the surroundings.

That really is one of the coolest things EVER!

Of course this is amazing technology but there's one thing which annoys me: the constant use of the word "hologram" when there doesn't seem to be any actual holograms involved, it's merely augmented reality, or "mixed reality" as Microsoft likes to call it. What you see in that video is what the women wearing the headset would see, you cannot see it without the headset because it isn't a real hologram.

There has already been a bit of moral high grounding on this with "industry experts" agreeing at CES2015 that adult content might be too addictive to incorporate.

thefusejoplin.com...

Expect lots of porngoggles on kickstarter if the existing manufacturers doesn't embrace the obvious.

The windows sdk is coming out eventually.
Anyone with windows 10 and visual studio can develop any app they want.

Once the cat is out of the bag, so to speak, you will see some adult content come to hololens.

I expect hololens to become very popular if the adult industry can incorporate telepresence with a hololens experience.

Not had a chance to play on GTA V yet, let alone mod it for the rift....too busy bloody working.

Alien Isolation is cool, if you can put up with the occasional bouts of nausea.

Here is a more in depth talk about the Hololens on day two of Build 2015
I am kind of interested in the camera and recording abilities.
30 minutes of boring talk to anyone not interested!
I found it informative though because I am really wondering about this product.
