One would assume that if someone deems themself worthy enough to become the most powerful person in the world, the so called leader of the free world,
that they would have a glowing record to prove themselves of that estimation. On closer inspection of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s resume, it’s hard
to believe that she or anyone else would accept that she is ‘Worthy'!
Where did it all begin for Hillary?
Hillary Rodham attended Wellesley College, a highly selective private women's liberal-arts college in the town of Wellesley, Massachusetts and
graduated in 1969. She then attended Yale Law School, where she met her future husband Bill Clinton. By all accounts except her own, Hillary was an
average student and after graduating in 1973, she failed the DC Bar exam. She later re-sat the Bar Exam, this time in Arkansas and this time, she was
successful.
Did Hillary’s career have a glittering beginning?
In 1974, Hillary became a member of the presidential impeachment inquiry staff, advising the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives
during the Watergate scandal. She was later fired for ‘fraud and unethical behaviour’. Her boss at the time, Jerry Ziefman, commented that the
reason for her dismissal was; “Because she was a liar”, “She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the
rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality.”
In August 1974, after her dismissal, and the absence of any other offers, Hillary joined the faculty at the University of Arkansas School of Law in
Fayetteville. It is widely believe that the University Law School only hired her because her Yale Classmate and Boyfriend, Bill Clinton was already
teaching there and he had used his influence to secure her position. She later married Bill in a ceremony at their home in Fayetteville in October
1975.
In February 1977, the year Bill took office as Attorney General for Arkansas, Hillary joined the Prestigious Rose Law Firm. Later in 1977, President
Jimmy Carter appointed her to the Legal Services Corporation. It is widely believed that the appointment was in exchange for Bill’s support for
Carter in his 1980 primary against Ted Kennedy. In 1979, the year Bill took office as the Governor of Arkansas; Hillary was made a full partner of
Rose Law Firm.
Hillary continued to practice law at Rose Law Firm while she was First Lady of Arkansas; she had less billable hours than others yet she still earned
$200,000 in her final year there. Her true value to the firm was that she brought in clients because the prestige of her being the Governor’s Wife
and the corporate board connections that are the trimmings of such a position. Hillary also proved very influential in the appointment of state
judges.
During this period, Hillary served on the boards of two non-profit organisations, the Children’s Defence Fund from 1986 to 1992 and the Arkansas
Children’s Hospital Legal services from 1988 to 1992. In addition to these non-profit positions, she also held lucrative positions on the corporate
board of directors for TCBY ‘85-’92, Wal-Mart ’86-’92 and Lafarge ’90-’92. Both TCBY and Wal-Mart were clients of Rose Law.
Did Hillary’s career have a glittering middle?
In 1992 Bill was elected President and there has never been any secret that Hillary was very influential during his administration. However, her most
memorable storylines while ‘serving’ as First Lady were the Monica Lewinski scandal, the Whitewater scandal and the defeat of her effort to pass
sweeping health care reform dubbed Hillarycare in 1994, later resurrecting itself in a different guise as Obamacare. Both resulted in catastrophic
failures.
Did it even have a glittering end?
In 2000, Hillary ran and won election to the US Senate for the Democratic stronghold state of New York. She spent nine years as a state senator and
other than meaningless legislation to change the names of courthouses and post offices Hillary managed to pass four substantive pieces of legislation.
Setting up a National park in Puerto Rico, providing respite care for families coping with Alzheimer’s and two routine party-supported Bills for
Aiding 911 victims and responders.
After a failed bid to gain the Democratic nomination to run for president in 2008, Hillary was confirmed by Senate vote as Secretary of State in
January 2009. It’s hard to deny that she is a hard working and competent secretary of state. She has visited over one hundred countries and there
were no major negative incidents during these trips. Her attempts at improving relations with Russia came to nothing. It resigned her to an
“unremarkable” tenure as Secretary of State by the time she left the post in February 2013.
So, has there been any scandal along the way?
In September 2012, there was a terrorist attack on the US consulate in Benghazi during which US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others were
killed. Initially, it was reported that the Benghazi attack was a spontaneous protest triggered by an anti-Muslim video. A narrative that was
supported and exploited by Hillary even though it was proven that she knew it was a premeditated terrorist attack literally moments after it had
begun. It is suggested she followed this narrative as it excused her total lack of action as events unfolded.
Post departure from the state department, it emerged that while Hillary was overseeing much of US foreign policy in her post at the State Department,
her family’s foundation continued to accept donations from multinational corporations, some of whom stood to gain from her decisions as secretary.
It was discovered that 181 Clinton Foundation Donors were also lobbying the State Department. One of the largest donors was directly conducting
business with Iran, a country she threatened to ‘nuke’ in a television interview in 2008.
The chairman of Uranium One, a uranium-mining company with large operations in the US made a string of substantial and well-timed donations to the
Clinton Foundation even as the State Department was determining whether to approve a lucrative takeover of that company by Russian Atomic Energy
Agency, Rosatom. The deal was approved, but those donations were never reported even though they were strictly required to be.
Between 2010 and 2012, while Hillary Clinton was running the State Department, the Clinton Foundation told the IRS it had received no money from
foreign governments. Reporting by Reuters has shown that this wasn’t true, and the foundation has admitted it made a mistake. Despite a pledge to
cap donations from foreign governments during Hillary’s tenure at the State Department, there were branches of the Clinton Foundation that saw a
meaningful increase in such contributions, which also went undisclosed.
The truth is that Hillary has had a long, chequered career, full of scandals and lies. She has used her relationship with Bill Clinton to advance her
career at every juncture without ever really achieving anything of any significant value to the American people Right now, she’s all the Democrat
Party have to succeed Barack Obama, but her presence is based on gender, well spun resume and connection to the beloved Bill. It’s not based on her
commitment, performance, integrity or anything else tangible.
For the sake of the ‘free’ world, let’s hope that she isn’t occupying the oval office in January 2017.
