Have you guys read anything about this mystery disease? I guess it's 'trending' because it's spreading FAST. From the articles I've read through you basically wake up looking like zombie eyes..and then die. 3 days in and 27 are dead...It's not Ebola..and has people frightened..Mix this crap with modified rabies and you got yourself a real zombie apocalypse!

Officials are stressing that it's not Ebola, but this sounds scarier than Ebola.

Keeping an eye on this. Thanks.

A bit more in depth article on it....I believe this is the original story....kills very quickly apparently.

He stated that, in addition causing blindness, the unknown disease also caused victims’ tongues to swell abnormally, rendering the victims incapable of speech, prior to death within a few hours.

In a broadcast on a state-owned radio station in Akure, the state capital, the Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Mr. Adeyanju, said the ravaging disease was not Ebola as some feared. The commissioner stated that health officials and equipment had been deployed to the community to curtail the spread of the strange disease.

“The community outbreak team informed us yesterday morning of disease outbreak in Irele. The unknown disease isn’t Ebola as it doesn’t manifest any of its symptoms, but only attacks the central nervous system of the victims.

“We can’t really say what is responsible for this ailment. It was clear that those who had died had no symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea,” said Mr. Adeyanju, adding that the symptoms of the ailment included headaches and loss of sight prior to death.

“The disease has been spread to the whole town and it has been very difficult to trace it to a particular source because it had already spread across the whole local government of Irele,” he said.

The health commissioner disclosed that investigations had commenced to determine the cause and source of the strange epidemic stressing that blood samples from some victims have been taken to a laboratory in Lagos for tests.

Mysterious ailment has already claimed the lives of 5 students of Kanta Unity College, Argungu, Kebbi State.

Very fast death!

The victims were dying in a few hours after showing the first symptoms.

Maybe.

But Nigeria is a ecological disaster waiting to happen.
Many big chemical and oil company's operate there with little in the way of environmental safety.

It only a matter of time before a community ends up with something toxic dumped in there water supply.

OK, are we sure? This is from a source called Sahara Reporters and the disease kills fast and makes the eyes look freaky.

**MOVIE SPOILERS**

I am reminded of the movie Sahara based on a Clive Cussler novel. The plot features a treasure hunter and a WHO disease investigator chasing reports of an infectious disease and lost Ship of Death across the West African desert. The infectious disease makes the eyes look funky and kills quickly. Sound familiar? It was caused by heavy metal toxicity. An evil French industrialist was improperly storing toxic waste at his solar-powered waste disposal plant and the stuff was leaching into the ground water and causing the disease.

**END SPOILERS**

So ... Here you go. Hi-tech trash gets exported and dumped in Africa. The toxic metals and minerals in the trash end up in the watershed.

It is next to impossible to gauge how much e-waste is still being smuggled into China, diverted to other parts of Asia, or—increasingly—dumped in West African countries like Ghana, Nigeria, and Ivory Coast. At ground level, however, one can pick out single threads from this global toxic tapestry and follow them back to their source.

So who knows? Maybe Cussler was prophetic?

And here is the press release from them on the government site:

Source

Ondo State Government has deployed Health Personnel and Equipment‎ to Ode Irele following the outbreak of a strange disease which has led to the death of 12 persons.

The State Health Commissioner, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Akure said preliminary investigations show that the yet to be known disease is not Ebola as it does not manifest any of its symptoms, but it attacks the central nervous system of the victims.

He said government after getting information on the disease immediately deployed officials who took samples from victims which has been sent to Lagos for laboratory analysis to help understand the nature of the disease.

Adeyanju who warned against spreading false information on the social media, said government is on top of the situation, and advised people in the council area to report any strange illness to the nearest health facility.

He assured that government is also doing it's best to contain the disease from further spreading out of the town while those infected have been quarantined at the General Hospital, Irele and other patients moved out from the facility.

The Health Commissioner also advised the people to avoid handling dead bodies at this period to help contain further spread of the disease.

Either they used a stock image or its made up because if you search G00gle images for that image you get various sites not related to any disease or illness.

The story is on the governments website....the photo was from another source likely going for shock value. The story is actually true and very real. Check out my links in the posts above. It seems the government is only claiming 12 deaths, but likely they are trying to keep the fear out of it....it apparently kills quickly, so it is likely it will die out quickly as long as they contain it to that area.

I guess the zombie look gets hits.

Scary times we live in.

“We believe that the death of our colleagues is an attack by evil spirits. We were cleaning our school environment recently when we heard a strange voice in the fire we set to rubbish, telling us to be ready to face the music for what the strange voice called ‘intruding into their vicinity’.”

Im not sure what this is all about but its odd that they felt it was worth reporting.
