Yeah, and to call for the immediate termination of a full grown adult with bills to pay to other individuals in the Real Life Working World over the hurt feelings of a teenager who still lives at home under her parents labor is just soooooooo rational.

Good line of sight there. Watch out for the sandtrap.

*golf clap*

Then in accordance with your reasoning .. If you came to my office seeking treatment for a hangnail I could turn you away because I dont agree with your politics ...

Sorry sunshine it doesnt work that way .. as a physician I have treated all who came (or in most cases were brought in on stretchers) to my clinic regardless of their race .. beliefs .. religion .. politics .. and yes there were those whose ideologies I dont agree with .. set all that aside and treated them as treated all my patients with the best of my knowledge .. skill .. and ability .. Id fire any nurse that failed to do her job because it clashed with her beliefs .. have neither the time nor patience to deal with stupidity .. especially when stupidity ends up costing lives .. or even potentially costing lives .. as physician my duty is to the well being of my patients .. end of .. same as for anyone working in the medical field ..

yes, patriotism is archaic, traditions are sometimes one of the things that can hold back nations. If we called it blind patriotism or blind faith does that sound better, obviously you are a "whoop whoop go america", and this whole debarcle stinks of indoctrination as with in england the obsesion with school uniforms and the need to breed the next batch of sheeple. I have often looked upon America with bemusement at the frequency that the American flag is used, akin to the dictators with their own portraits draped on the side of buildings, ha ha muppets, why pledge allegiance to something you are ashamed of, would you pledge allegiance to Allah if you where a christian or vice versa, no!, The nurse should be fired and held up as an example to others. It is about time that we started to give children the same rights that their educational oppressors are afforded, if the nurse had recieved the same treatment she would have sued the school and won

"ACCORDING TO YOUR REASONING."

Wow. Suddenly we're all spawned from the same lab and sharing the identical social and logistics programming?

Honey, I think not. I appreciate the your attempt at derivative reasoning but there is really nothing here to debate.

I am a student (not by means master) of Psychology and over my 20 years of study and personal coming to terms with a system that still has leaps and bounds to go with curing me of my own condition (heal thyself, i get it - working on it) I can tell you from firsthand experience that there are loads of charlatans out there abusing the System because they are simply unmotivated and disinterested or else too advanced to find any care in the System we now know.

Teenagers are notorious for this behavior, and more so now than ever before in recorded History it seems (though Socrates might argue me on that point, I concede).

As per your Hippocratic Oath - I give you much merit, but you might wish to slow down and work on your Grammar and Paraphrasing in order to really play witness and testimony to one who professes a PhD. It 's always important to stay well rounded, and if your caseload is to the point where you cannot take time to tend to such small details, what makes you think your healing methods might not be as succinct and orderly?

Your waiting room must be a mess.
If so, I apologize I cannot render immediate assistance.

TO THE REST:

This article is nothing more than a discretionary hit-piece designed to inflame the social justice warriors and blah blah blah social debate skills yadda yadda yadda....and maybe weed out of few more of those silly "no good damn flag burning hippies" who really think smoking ganja and endlessly harping over the same old "hey man, ya know what needs to chaaaaaaaaaaaaaange man" kind of debates all Freshmen inevitably go through blah blah blah.

If that last idea doesn't float your boat...how about arts and crafts or new farming techniques? I understand it's good time to start planting for the Fall Gourd Festival.

Seeing as how all your grasps and understanding of the Social Order and the all-encompassing rule of DEMOCRACY has not much bearing as the rights and freedoms of the "singular poor and oppressed individual" with no regard for the rights and freedoms of the OTHER member of this particular party member (who may or may not exist by the way) is so radically biased in favor of giving the finger to America, and instead prefer to give over to Mod Mentality and Draconian Rule so quickly I fail to have much hope for any sustainability outside what must be the glorious and blissful idyllic fields of your respective Reservations at the moment.

I'm gonna end this here because we all know even the good teachers don't get paid diddlysquat enough to put up with this level of public school failure....even the tenured ones. And you know what? I think if you all really want to form your own brand of Socialist Indoctrination State in accordance with your "oh so avant garde insights" you should focus more on astrophysics and aerospace engineering and some viable plan to harvest and prove resources for your Mental Rocket ships of TRUE FREEDOM away from The Yoke of the Oppressive and Fascist Corporate Tyranny of America and blast off to another habitable hippie planet.

Have fun with that one.

Take it easy out there.

Peace, Love and all that Jazz.
I'm out.

EDIT TO ADD:

I'd recommend:

Plato's Republic.
Dostoevsky Crime and Punishment
Machiavelli's The Prince
Roberts Rules of Order (for good measure)
and
Kafka's The Trial

Happy reading.

That's bloody outrageous!

Sue the nurse and the school.

Bloody brainwashing swine.

By the way OP;

So I sort of despise atheist groups...

Why is that?

Is it perhaps due to all the death and misery, all the millions dead due to wars and the brainwashing of millions of innocent and gullible children, all the land grabs and fleecing of the poor throughout the centuries?

Oh..hang on, that wasn't the Atheist people doing that, that's the religious among us who have...my mistake!

If you want to single out and despise a group in particular, i would have thought those more worthy of your derision, would be those who have actually contributed to the deaths of millions around this planet over the centuries, not those who refuse to be brainwashed by the same rhetoric that makes those people religious enough so they willingly sleepwalk into murder of those who believe in something different?

Your choice..i just find it very odd.

Most militaries of the world salute the flag of their nation...

And Unless things have changed since I was in school, it's not a salute as implied by a picture posted earlier. Right hand is placed over the heart...

If someone doesn't want to stand and recite the pledge, i have no problem with that. As to the nurse, they should not refuse medical treatment because they don't agree with the actions of a child. Nurse should be fired, fined, and possibly jailed for a few months. And for the school to delay parental contact is ridiculous. Seems like they just wanted to brainwash her to minimize the situation - I hope the parents sue the school and win a nice settlement.

Hmmmm, didn't we have this discussion - - if a Christian firefighter could refuse to treat a LGBT person under religious freedom laws?

There was also a discussion as to whether or not it was acceptable to discriminate against someone who chose not to get a vaccine. A lot of posters thought it was OK to refuse to serve someone that refused to get a vaccine, but not OK to refuse to serve someone for other reasons.

I find that certain groups that preach anti-discrimination are, in actuality, perfectly fine with discrimination, so long as you are discriminating against the people they don't like.

right because they have an idea of what the country can be for there loved ones and are willing to die for it. Because that idea is powerful and beautiful.

I have to say, I notice the username you are responding to, an Expat.

Good for expats to go with their conscience, the United States wants everyone to go by their conscience, but some people in the United States don't have any conscience.

Patriotism is exactly why we are permitted to use our conscience, patriotism is exactly why we have freedom of speech. I notice that ExPat is exercising their right to freedom of press. You know, it is really strange that people who don't like the United States really seem to embrace their rights offered by the Constitution. When they say the Constitution is archaic, is the right to freedom of press and speech also archaic?

When we say "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America", you are really saying you pledge allegiance to the very symbol of your right not to pledge allegiance. What is that called again? Oh yes, irony.

So don't pledge, and don't exercise any right that came by way of it. Don't complain about it, just don't exercise any right. So they need to shut up and put their conscience where their mouth is. They just need to shut up because there were a whole lot of people who died to give them that right.

So true.

BTW - - I'm very pro vaccination. Because it isn't just about you.

There's a reason they call them "communicable" diseases.

First of all the Pledge reeks of nationalism and brainwashing, and it's something that should have died out decades ago. Second, the nurse is on a power trip, and likely the other staff too. This is brought about by the same nonsense nationalism, patriotic nonsense and religious brainwashing supported by things like the Pledge.

It's about time people stopped pandering to this nonsense and made it clear once and for all, we are Humans first, nationality is almost irrelevant, and religion should not be a part of education in any way other than basic teaching of various religious beliefs in a secular manner.

No, you're right to feel that way, mindless patriotism and nationalism breeds hatred and intolerance for anyone who doesn't "comply". We see it already in the US, although it's on a smaller scale than historical examples we can all point to.

It's part of the tribal mentality people still cling to, and it is ultimately very dangerous.

Look at the mentalities of those who staunchly rant about their patriotism and nationality and you'll find plenty of right-wingers, racists, bigots, thugs, wannabe fascists, religious dictators... it breeds a certain kind of arrogance which so easily becomes violence towards anyone not complying with that same ignorance.

Who the bleep cares if someone doesn't say the pledge? It's kinda creepy anyway. Forcing someone to say it is a spit in the face to our constitution. Wasn't it brought about in the 50's or something to sell flags anyway? I hope the nurse is disciplined very harshly, preferably fired.

Hmmmm, didn't we have this discussion - - if a Christian firefighter could refuse to treat a LGBT person under religious freedom laws?

Yes we did and all concluded that the laws did not protect an employee from being fired by their boss if they didn't do the service their boss hired them to do.

As for the pledge, it was started by a socialist who promoted it to promote ideas of planned economy and "equality" and a communal identity.

Francis Bellamy (1855 - 1931), a Baptist minister, wrote the original Pledge in August 1892. He was a Christian Socialist. In his Pledge, he is expressing the ideas of his first cousin, Edward Bellamy, author of the American socialist utopian novels, Looking Backward (1888) and Equality (1897).

Francis Bellamy in his sermons and lectures and Edward Bellamy in his novels and articles described in detail how the middle class could create a planned economy with political, social and economic equality for all. The government would run a peace time economy similar to our present military industrial complex.

Given this, I've never understood the support "conservatives" gave the pledge--it is actually against individualism and self reliance.

Tell that to the families of those who came home in body bags .. or to all the vets who went to fight the wars only to return home to get spit on .. denied jobs .. end up living on the street ... or committing suicide .. yep real good thing patriotism ..

and yet, people mostly on the right, but some on the left, keep wanting us to go to war at the drop of a hat...they want those defense contractors political contributions, so they have to have wars to keep those companies in business.....Christ, we even have a 24 hour a day TV channel devoted to war, it's called the military channel...and we all sit here wondering why we have decades of body bags, and wounded warriors....America is a war country, period
