You have a right somewhere to do all of those crimes? You will confront armed officers and the situation can go bad if you struggle no matter how well trained they get.

That is a chance that criminals take.... But there are rules.
Cops don't get to execute people if they are not a threat.

Of course not, which is why he was arrested.

Doesn't change the fact that crime is dangerous and this problem will never go away.

It can though, People all over the world resist arrest and don't get killed.

Where do they get killed all the time every time, in the US? That is what you are implying.
The US jails are full of people that didn't get killed while arrested, your implied statement is ridiculous.

I'm implying that it's a growing problem, here in the US as in this case. We have threads all the time on ATS of this guy getting killed and this person and this guy and this mentally ill person. Far too often cops kill rather than do their job. The cops have gotten lazy. We've gotten slack in our hiring criteria. We've defunded training. We can reverse all of this at any time. We just have to put our minds to it.

This cop should have never been hired. Let this instance and all those like it put cops on notice. You're going to be called out, fired, prosecuted, sued and ruined if you kill people in this manner.

Once is too many. If this shooting is justified in your eyes, then where do you draw the line? If a shoplifter runs, do you shoot her in the back too? Where's that line? Watch cops for one small sample size. Many of them run, none of them get shot in the back. It can be done.

Ya and it gets done every day, the jails are and have been full of caught people who didn't get shot.
The only thing that has changed is the media coverage, it makes bad things that have always happened seem as if they are of epidemic proportions when they are the same or even less than historical occurrences. Today the cops are more likely to get arrested than ever before for errant shootings. This case is a perfect example, the cop was arrested for murder.

Your hysterics are totally unwarranted and is only a reflection of how the media is milking any violence that occurs.

I disagree on your basic premise.

I think that with the media coverage and how everyone is on camera...all the time. That bad things that have been hidden in the past are now seeing the light of day. Only by talking about it, getting it out there and in the open do things ever change.

It's not hysterics to want police officers to stop shooting unarmed people to death. That's common sense.

I'm sure I'm not the only non-American here who thinks this is all utterly insane. Why does the Tazer matter? It's irrelevant who fired it, who was hit by it, or what happened before the shooting... the fact is, this cop murdered a man who was clearly not a threat to him, he was attempting to get away from him.

Tazer or not, this was a murder. That is why the cop needs to face a murder charge and be found guilty. Everything else is irrelevant. The evidence shows that the officer did not need to use lethal force, his life was not in danger, neither was the life of anyone else.

I agree with your premise of media interest causing more attention to be brought, but reporting on incidents doesn't manufacture those incidents.

These incidents are not happening because of media attention, they have always happened.

How about instead of manufacturing the belief that this is a media driven witch hunt, you perhaps consider that this is just the media finally catching up with reality and reporting on something that should have been dealt with twenty years ago?

You seem to be suggesting that it's okay that these things happen, that nothing needs to be changed, that it's just media attention. The reality is that this is a terrible situation that's been going on unreported across your country for decades, of course it needs to be confronted. It's about time the media stopped burying these stories - and I wonder why they did for so long... Rodney King?

Oh I see. The MSM is always the boogeyman doing baddie stuff on the world stage until they propagate something you agree with. Gotcha.
Gotta love how people expect to have things both ways.

you are using logic
and your initial premise is that the victim was a human being, with all that implies.

understand why this BS is even being entertained and defended now?
[why it's not in the hoax bin says a lot]

kali hit the nail right on the head: it's about controlling the narrative.

makes you question all the attacks on trayvon, brown, gardener, and countless others.
like those cases a victim no longer able to defend himself and his surviving friends and family have to seek justice/defend his reputation against THE entirety of LEOdom, a media that does this sort of thing:
, a climate that has been created in this country that says it's cool to use deadly force against black men when acting under the color of law, elected local officials who've contributed to this climate because the people who elect them more often or not view black men as dangerous predators, and every racist in the country with an internet connection, all while being physically stalked and harassed by them.

Watch the video?!?!

It's much more telling that the audio that you have been forced to resort to, to defend you standing.

The tazer is thrown backwards.. from Scott towards Slager.

Truth hurts, that's why they invented Vaseline!

The truth is that an officer of the law shot an unarmed man running away from him (wanted for back child support payments) in the back.

You must not be economical with the truth! you did not mention the broken tail light, so that's two criminal charges...sad isn't it?
Sad too that some other posters talk about criminals and don't even read this thread, or any of the other threads about the shooting.

If you watch from the beginning, he had no Insurance or registration and was pleading with the cop that he was just buying the car and didn't get the papers yet. Cop goes in his vehicle to run his ID, then the criminal opens the door a first time and is told to stay in his vehicle. A few moments later he opens the door and starts running like crazy.

You can hear on the police radio while the cop first approached that there is a stolen vehicle.

We don't execute petty criminals on the streets now though, do we?

I wasn't around when we gave cops judge/jury and executioner rights without appeals or witnesses or anything.

Hmmm...I think I'll opt for a fair trial myself.

Newsflash,
Crime is dangerous.

Should we get rid of all police now?

Politics is dangerous, mostly because of politicians, should we get rid of all the police now?
Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Saddam, G.W.B, Blair, Robinson, McGuiness, Kelly, Paisley, Thatcher, Obama, Putin, G.H.B, Johnston, Blah blah to infinity........all criminals in the true sense of the word, some are already dead, some are still alive unlike their victims, some were never indicted, while you want to rabbit on about crime being dangerous in a singular fashion by trying to take over this thread with pure bull, as if this was democracy in action...feck it, maybe it was for somebody!

Given the fact that this case has been thoroughly tried on
many public forums , and a verdict of murder thus imposed ,
... surely this warrants a no-jury trial by a panel of supreme court judges ?

I think any potential juror ,could be prejudiced either way on this matter,
as the crucial evidence is in the public domain ,
and as has been pointed out , only one of twelve amatuer opinions
could de-rail any successful prosecution ..... and add more conspiracy/anarchy ?

Are people really trying to defend the police officer?

Doesn't really matter what happened with the taser...by the time the cop pulled his gun the guy was running away and a good distance from him. I don't care how much you love cops...running away from a cop doesn't give them justification to shoot you.

Video shows cops clearly shooting a black guy in the back while he is running away...and yet people still defend the cop. Is there anyway a cop can kill a black guy that would cause these people to not defend the cop?

Agree,

The cop intentionally shot a fleeing "suspect" in the back and seemed pretty damned calm doing it (in my opinion). If it wasn't for the video, he would have gotten away with it I believe.

i don't get why the officer ordered the guy to put his hands behind his back, when he already shot him 8 times and he was already fully prone on the ground. how's a guy who's been taken down with 8 bullets gonna have the ability to put his hands behind his back? anybody see any blood on the victim? furthermore, why would he try to cuff a guy who needed cpr?
that's a weird video.

Uhh yes.. just like Butcher please FREAKING LEARN BEFORE POSTING!!!!

They keep on firing as long as the wires are attached and the trigger is pulled.. til the battery run out.

Thanks for trying, please try again.

The witness who took the video said Scott was on the ground tased. Slager is on audio deploying a taser. This rather supports that Scott was the one who got prongs stuck in him and was tased.

Yet, you want to argue that Slager was the one who got tased. How did Slager allegedly get tased from the above evidence?

Slager would have to have reloaded the taser, no?

Sorry, but you're delusional. Scott didn't taze Slager. You can manufacture and spin this any way you want to, but the REALITY is, it didn't happen.

What DID happen was Slager shot a man, who was NO THREAT to him, eight times, hitting him FIVE TIMES.

That is murder, all day long. Slager is just another bully on the streets who thought he'd get away with it, but he didn't. Thank God something is finally being done to stop this above the law and free to kill attitude so clearly displayed by too many LEO's in this country.

No. But we should get rid of the killers, bullies, above the law type LEO's and the shills and trolls who love them.

Man, I don't give a crap about the taser. The idiotic cop shot a scared citizen in the back dead. The cop should rot in jail.

Sooo if you had a gun, and I shot you with a tazer.. and still had the darts in you, you wouldn't shoot?

Darwin was right!

And you are wrong.
