I can't know what Slager was thinking at the time, but I think it could have helped certainly. If he genuinely believed he was justified in the shooting, the body cam may not have saved Scott. But it may have made Slager think twice before pulling the trigger.

I'm for body cams, yes. They should be requirements for all LEOs.

And I NORMALLY side with the cops in matters like this.
Too bad video spoiled that. Are you for lapel cams?
Imo, that would have spared this mans life. It shouldn't be a matter of believing anybody.

Watch the video?!?!
It's much more telling that the audio that you have been forced to resort to, to defend you standing.
The tazer is thrown backwards.. from Scott towards Slager.
Truth hurts, that's why they invented Vaseline!
Probably after the fact, unfortunately.

Actually, he's seen to glance at the camera as he re holsters his sidearm. Again when picking up the taser he threw down on his "victim".
Dude knew what he was doing was being "caught on tape".

The truth is that an officer of the law shot an unarmed man running away from him (wanted for back child support payments) in the back.
You want to somehow justify this because you are having difficulty accepting that this is what indeed happened.

The video is actually pretty neat. You can see the taser cartridge bouncing along behind Scott as he's running, a clear indication that probes were still attached.

The video shows Scott knocking the Taser from Slager's hand, turning, and running away. There is a point while he is running away that wires can be seen between Slager and Scott.
Maybe Slager did Tase Scott, just he said over the radio, and maybe Scott knocked it out of his hand... maybe those wires were trailing Scott because he had one or more Taser probes in him.
I will wait for the autopsy results. That should settle it.

We don't know if he saw a pair of legs over there or what. He may not have known that the guy was recording it.
I think he didn't, otherwise, he would have taken the phone and destroyed it.
(CNN)Feidin Santana, the man who recorded a South Carolina police officer fatally shooting a fleeing, unarmed man, told CNN on Thursday night he was told by another cop to stop using his phone to capture the incident.

You must not be economical with the truth! you did not mention the broken tail light, so that's two criminal charges...sad isn't it?
Sad too that some other posters talk about criminals and don't even read this thread, or any of the other threads about the shooting.

Yes, a profiteering corrupt piece of sheit lawyer is saying it was about child support...
Did you watch the video? The first 60 seconds will dispute your entire claim.
Thanks for playing, please try again (with facts if you will)

Okay, so let's pretend he's a car thief. Does that now justify him being shot in the back fleeing? Just as others have said, police and lawyers I know who have seen this video say the officer was in the wrong.
Why is it so hard for you to accept that Slater murdered Scott? It's right there on video.
Yet, you want to cling to any scrap of hope that Slater didn't murder him - that he was justified in shooting him - that he was a good person. It seems as if you think Slager was a hero out there doing his job when some evil criminal took his taser and shocked him - forcing Slager to open fire on the fleeing monster.

If you watch from the beginning, he had no Insurance or registration and was pleading with the cop that he was just buying the car and didn't get the papers yet. Cop goes in his vehicle to run his ID, then the criminal opens the door a first time and is told to stay in his vehicle. A few moments later he opens the door and starts running like crazy.
You can hear on the police radio while the cop first approached that there is a stolen vehicle.

We can go all the way back to the start and say if the criminal never ran from his paperless car, he would still be alive. The set of circumstances were created by his criminal behavior. You wouldn't like that though.

We don't execute petty criminals on the streets now though, do we?
I wasn't around when we gave cops judge/jury and executioner rights without appeals or witnesses or anything.
Hmmm...I think I'll opt for a fair trial myself.
