Quite frankly I think it has been done in secrecy all along but now Russia has anounced a military arm .."to protect" their space craft .
I would think that, like us, they have secret orbital systems anyway as the treaties never were followed so neither did we.
Plum Island is ONLY an animal testing lab ,because Bological/Chemical weapons are illegal...RIGHT.
It was all a matter of a public image ,but now WHO CARES?

Not good.
But everyone's been at it on the sly anyways-US and China both have satellite takedown capability.
At least now its out in the open,Star Wars can finally commence.

Reagan would be proud..

Yeah, I too believe there have been military armed satellites up in space by more than a few countries for a while. The US and Russia both believe it anyway so have placed them in space just in case. If you believe that treaties are never broken than you are naive. The Top Secret projects do exist. The US Military knows Russia has these things, Russia's military knows the US has these things. Most of the citizens believe they don't because they are misled.

I don't know why they even make treaties to regulate this.

I've often wondered if the tech is there. But it would violate treaty laws.
Once Russia ask the U.S. to knock out a defunct satellite. The navy then did the service by sea launch missile.

So that cleared the notion of a satellite platform, thus space war tech.

Yes I did notice the date.

Russia's Ministry of Defense also plans deep-space missions to provide security to the distant regions of outer space, often used for lucrative illegal activity, including alien weapons and drug trafficking, as well as money laundering.

seems like some next level bull# going on here..

Russia's Ministry of Defense on April 1 established the Aerospace Monitoring Forces (AMF) tasked with providing security to spacecraft and the International Space Station (ISS) and enforcing international rules of space conduct.

The military corps, dubbed the Space Patrol by the Russian media, will carry out joint missions in cooperation with similar forces under development in other countries across the globe, including the United States, China and Germany.

There's no treaty against ground based systems. And they've talked about space based systems almost from the start of the space race. The Soviet Union even tried arming a station at one point.

Yes I thought ground platforms were OK.. just not rigging a satellite with nukes. Would be scary if it gets a follow through eventually. The ultimate "Anywhere. Anytime".

I'm Pretty sure F-15s had anti satelite missiles back in the 90s and not secret classified even back then, May be wrong though

Would find source but i'm really tired and Zaph will know )

It was the 80s. It was canceled after successfully destroying a satellite in a live test.

THAT'S what I thought in a "Hunter S. Thompson" kind of way.
The article itself brought up a decent qustion about what's really above our heads.
WE HAD to be able to do better than MAD when push came to shove.
If such systems exist I'M QUITE sure they are something to keep quiet, not stick in a public announcement and letting the otherside know about it. Unless it's a bluff or BOTH SIDES already HAVE them.
Nukes are too messy when percise orbital kennetics work so well.
WHAT did the XB-47s DO up there? adjust satellite recption?
Or recon.
A good 3d mapping of the intended battle space.
