For Russia to build an oil pipeline to the sea.

Afghanistan was in the way, no more...
Iraq was in the way... will not be a problem soon...

All that stands in their way is Iran...

Any thoughts?

Mmm....not bad theory. Id like to see if there is any documentation out there on this already. Russia was very against this war from the start. Im starting to wonder how many weapons in Iraq are flowing from Russia even today. Real good theory..

There are several other central asian republics (the 'stans') that would have to be gotten thru, and iraq has nothing to do with a central asian pipline. Infact, a pipeline could have a port to offload into the caspian, and then reload back on the russian coast, and then unload to international tankers in the black sea. Not the best route, but it'd be better than having waited around for someone to conquer afghanistan and iran and the rest of the stans.

If one is looking for a conspiracy to the wars, then notice that after afghanistan and iraq, iran has two major US armies on two of its borders, along with a dictatorial militant US ally on another border (pakistan) and i conceivably with in range of russian war fleets in the caspian.

Iran and Russia have oil swapping deal so Russians can sell their oil using Iranian ports. They have been doing that for the last three years or so.

In this world anything is possible. I was thinking that Iran was next for another reason. Having the whole region full of a U.S. presence of some sort, most likely bases. Then you have a legitimate balance to China in the region. As much as our presence in Europe during the Cold War is a balance to the Soviets. China is becoming a legitimate threat to the US economically and militarily. This is a problem for the USA, because it challenges the idea that only democracies can be legitimate economic powerhouses, and we don't want China challenging us, we are the lone superpower and don't want to give up that title.

Look on that map above, and you will see just how close we are to China in the region. They must be feeling a little ansy right now. China and North Korea are the only REAL communist powers left in this world, and you can be assured that the USA doesn't have that on it's list of long term goals.

I really wish we could have spent even half of the money we spent on Iraq doing research and development on converting to a Hydrogen economy. We could have eliminated our need for this oil, and cut ties with all middle eastern countries. Stop giving them our money, and let them slip back into the stone age. That is what they want isn't it? They obviously don't want to be democratic, educated, or productive in any way shape or form.

That is truly arguable. In Iran for example, the west (Britain and Russia and later the US) are responsible for what Iran is today. Research the consitutional revolution, the jungle movment lead by Mirza Koochak Khan and Mossadegh and operation ajax. They strived to be democratic, educated and productive but the west always stood there to ruin everything for Iran and Iranians.
