Hi.

I live in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. After leaving the Erasmus University, I saw this. Wouldn't this mean that what ever caused it had to fly9or fall) in a zigzag pattern. I'm constantly looking at the sky, spotting planes, but this stood out immediately.

They are similar, but not the same. If you look at min picture, you can see that the angles are even sharper, especially when you zoom in.

My guess would be a model rocket spinning through the air.

Too bad we don't have a pic of the culprit to be sure... but saucers don't usually leave exhaust trails!

I live in the mountains and I've seen the wind do some crazy things to clouds but nothing like that. My guess would be the same as Baddogma, a rocket propelled object spinning out of control. Or, aliens.

Some times due to turbulence at altitude they will dissipate like that. Not "falling' , thats an illusion from the POV of the camera.

Next time you see one wait for another plane to come along and see how the trail dissipates…

but don't grow impatient waiting.

Oh, and welcome to the site.
