Baltimore officials are sending turn-off notices to 25,000 delinquent water customers, giving them 10 days to pay long overdue bills or face the loss of water service.

...

Turning off water before delinquent accounts grow too large can help people stay in their homes, officials said.

The city does not seek to place a property in tax sale unless the owner owes at least $500.

Such tax sales can eventually lead to ...

foreclosure proceedings if bills remain unpaid.

[10-Day] Turn-Off Notices To 25,000 [12-Days Ago]

There's more in this story but these parts seemed ... The Nastiest.

OPINION ... For NOT PAYING a Water-Bill:

It's one thing to shut someone's water off ...

BUT

It's entirely another to take someone's property too !!!

( i.e. robbery ... or is baltimore that freaking broke? )

-
OBSERVATION:

I noticed Baltimore is 25-Miles from Washington D.C.

( i.e. that's even more pathetic! )

Baltimore.

Another fine example of big government big city failure.

I bet the political corruption theft is 100x more than all the overdue water bills.

You can have a well.

Each state and city are different.

Where I live you can have a well, or the city water.... or both if you are insane. The only reason you can loose your home where I am is through unpaid property tax. The thought of the water department seizing your home for not having their service, or being late on their bill is horrific!

Most of MD is a little nuts when it comes to taking things, and the amount of money political parties take and spend.

I think it is disgusting but, perfectly legal in the sense that laws have been passed that allow it.

The response should be for everyone who owns property to sell it and move to a different city or state.

Or they should start a grass roots movement to change the laws. Create a petition and protest while submitting a bill proposal. Get a bunch of media attention to all this and start a big stink about it.

Eaters know the rules they can't have anything shutoff between October and April here in Michigan so come spring they move into a new place and use a new name to get utilities.
I used to get peoples bills at my business all the time because I had the street number on the sign. Last election I mush have gotten 50 voter ID's. We got dozens of Dr bills every month and you name it, had a locking mailbox that they tried to pry open more times than I can count. They would actually stop and ask for mail. Tax returns lots of tax returns. return to sender black out our address.
