The reality of how well all the developed countries, perform, comes down to the average IQ of its general population . With the West putting all the next generation of citizens in debt to gain an advanced education . Thus making a degree the main qualification to get a job at the Golden arches, on who's generous pay they will have to service the interest on student debt. It starting to look like Russia will be in reality forging ahead, with an educated generation, far more able than the West, at present seems to be doing. en.wikepedia.org... If you get a degree in anything, the next step is to stay in the field, and get more practice, if this doesn't happen in a few years its wasted. Like many capitalist wet dreams , this fact alone will eventually lead to, a whole generation, wondering how come the previous generation got free education, and how come we have to pay?, thus leading to more extreme socialist thinking.

This sounds very much like the Kremlin-sponsored posting we have been hearing so much about recently, albeit a bit less heavy-handed than usual.

My apology if not, but I have seen this particular pro-Russia angle way too often not to be suspicious.

Never mind, looks like you have a long history here. The pro-Putin shills are usually new accounts. My mistake.

It is very true that an educated population, even educated beyond current available positions is one of the strongest resources a country can have. South Korea and Japan both understand this very well. It is both very predictable that our corporatist system has monetized even education, and very sad.

According to whom?

Most experts can't even agree on what IQ means much less which of many tests is the most accurate and what a score actually represents.

Who provides the data?

US educational stats are publicly reported and easy to track and verify while nothing that comes from Russia gets through without being triple checked and run through the propaganda office.

It seems to me you have just fallen victim to the latest massive push by the Russian propaganda machine (now featuring that hack shill Jesse 'nobody' Ventura).

Fair comment, unfortunately we have to take things on their merit , but its getting obvious that as the West has been doing the "dumbing down thing" to up the Corporate sales , this could very well be our ultimate undoing, as we are being out thought where it really matters.IE. we are not playing the long game.

Russia spends a relatively large percentage of their GDP on education, thus they spend tens of billions of dollars on education every year. But I think the most surprising statistic is the fact that over half of the Russian population has gone to college. One thing that many people do not realize however is the sheer number of sub-standard universities in Russia, or "diploma mills." Russia has started a campaign to weed these out a few years ago, so this is likely to decline in the future. Russia requires its citizens to attend school up until the age of 16, but despite this fact something like 95% of individuals pursue their education past this age.

Russia's tertiary education system differs from that of the US as well. Some notable differences include the fact that textbooks in Russia are free. Financial aid is quite different as well, in that instead of it being based on need, it is based on merit. So those who do better are the ones who get financial help. Only recently has Russia began adopting the model of 2 and 4 year, or associate and bachelor degrees, and not that long ago it might have taken longer to get a degree. I'm not sure if this differed based upon the major however.

Russia does not really have "free" college education, but only about 1/3 of students end up paying tuition. I may be slightly off with that number, but it is probably pretty close. My point is that there are many differences where the Russian education system is concerned, at least when compared to education in the United States. I think it is worse in Russia as far as unemployed degree holders are concerned. I remember reading about the large number of medical doctors who could not find work, and the often low salaries in this field. The market is just flooded with graduates where certain fields are concerned, thus many people cannot find work. So I would not say their education system is "better," especially considering compulsory education is a year or two shorter than in the US. As far as the quality of tertiary education, I remember reading an article which stated that Russia has better quality of education in the natural sciences at the university level, while they fall behind in the social sciences- but they are catching up in this area as well. I'm not sure about the other areas, as I do not remember reading anything about the quality of those subjects.

The West has been becoming dumber for about 100 years now todays' senior high school students would not pass an English or maths test from 1980 let alone 1918,FOR the first 6 months most colleges have to teach people to read write and spell as high school hasn't my advice to kids is you don't need a college degree get a trade instead you'll be far better off in the long run.All you'll get from college is debt and a Dilbert job.

I have to agree with that one.you can see it on the quiz shows, the most simple questions need someone with a few years under their belts to answer.

I know what you mean. I was watching Jeopardy the other day, and the final jeopardy answer was " Michelangelo's Pieta". That is a pretty elementary art history answer, that doesn't really evince any special, non-trivial knowledge in that field. I was actually thinking that the version of Jeopardy we have now must be 30 IQ points below the version from the 70s. They can't ask anything but the most basic questions now.

I'm cracking up. The reality of how well all the developed countries, perform, comes down to the average IQ

Back in 1999, my wife introduced me to a book called "Emotional Intelligence". What I learned was - there are NUMEROUS types of intelligence. IQ is but one. EQ is another. But make no mistake. There is no 'better way'.

Now IQ - a rote standardized testing - measures how well can you conform to someone else's thought process.

Plain and simple.

It's not a measure of outright intelligence. It's a measure of conformative intelligence and nothing more.

Now other countries outside the United States do not comprehend that the typical indoctrinated education and associated predictable measures are being abandoned.

Video Games provide a more realistic portrayal of the possibilities in reality than what a standardized textbook can provide. This is NOT to say historical education isn't important, it is, and children in the United States are undergoing an education rich in history through it's media resources.

The 'educational' system - as shaped and imposed by countries outside the United States is a simple failure in educating about the concepts of free thought and choice..

The 'educational' system outside the United States is even worse. It's presumptive at best. It's narcissistic.

And worst of all. It's not respectful of individual perspective - in the sleightest.

To some degree. Those who may be 'leading' the United States are really not leading.

Have you ever seen 'tail that wags the dog'?

If the leaders of this nation have any hopes of understanding what's going on with this new world order, they'd take the time to work with people like me ad Snowden who are guiding this nation from the cafes around the world - and also take the time to understand this isn't their world. It's our world.

But alas. This has yet to happen.

Socialism isn't a form of government.

It's a departure from monolithic governments to shift into a form of self governance.

Plain and simple.

In any case. I am proud to say my IQ went down from 160 to the 120 it's currently at in the last 10 years.

It's taken a LOT of hard work to unlearn the nasty habits associated with your way of thinking.

This has got to be a worry, the general knowledge base has really plummeted in so many ways to numerous to mention. Just take the Automobile, twenty years back your average person could at a push reconstruct an engine, and now days they and I wouldn't have a clue. Even if you managed to get a job in one of the trades, many are just fitters , of replacement parts.

Dayum, Impressive!

And we can't even let kids play cowboys and indians in schools anymore for a variety of reasons.

Yep, America is going to hell in a handbasket, and Obama is the one carrying it.
