"Typhoon jets from RAF Lossiemouth was scrambled to escort the transport plane to the airport around 6.30pm on Thursday.

Police Scotland said the aircraft landed safely later in the evening." The plane landed in Prestwick, flights where held back at Glasgow and Edinburgh until the situation was cleared.

The aircraft involved is understood to be an C27J transport aircraft.

Yes there was a radio failure, the plane is seen here landing at Prestwick,
